Chief Financial Officer
. Position Summary The Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial functions of the organization. This role provides strategic direction for financial planning, risk management, reporting, and compliance, while ensuring that financial operations support the company’s long-term growth and sustainability. The CFO serves as a trusted advisor to the President and Vice President to drive performance, profitability, and operational excellence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Strategy & Leadership
Provide strategic financial leadership, aligning financial management with company vision, mission, and goals. Develop long-term financial strategies, including capital allocation, investments, and growth initiatives. Advise President and Vice President on financial performance, forecasts, and opportunities for improvement. Ensure compliance with all financial, legal, and regulatory requirements. Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the development of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and performance metrics. Prepare projections for annual renewals, contracts, and major expenses (e.g., software systems, insurance, employee benefits). Conduct financial modeling to support bidding, new business initiatives, and long-range planning. Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis with recommendations. Accounting, Reporting & Controls
Oversee accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger functions. Prepare accurate and timely quarterly financial statements. Lead preparation of financial reports for banks, bonding companies, and external stakeholders. Ensure internal controls are effective, documented, and compliant with audits and best practices. Maintain fixed asset schedules, including additions and disposals. Payroll & Benefits Administration
Oversee payroll processes for multiple employee groups (clerical, executive, superintendents, union and non-union). Ensure compliance with tax regulations, retirement plan updates, and employee benefit deductions. Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, 401(k), FSA, and profit-sharing plans. Partner with HR to calculate annual PTO accruals and manage updates to employee compensation systems. Risk Management & Compliance
Manage insurance programs, including workers’ compensation, general liability, health, and dental plans. Prepare documentation for annual insurance audits and ensure ongoing compliance. Oversee contract compliance and financial obligations tied to union agreements. Mitigate risks through effective financial controls, insurance renewals, and proactive compliance monitoring. Operational & Administrative Leadership
Direct procurement and management of technology, office equipment, and related resources. Review and approve vendor invoices, credit card expenditures, and new hire documentation. Maintain relationships with banks, auditors, insurance providers, and external partners. Lead process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; MBA or CPA preferred. 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior executive role. Proven success in financial planning, risk management, and strategic leadership. Experience in construction, engineering, or related industries preferred. Skills & Competencies
Strategic thinker with strong business acumen. Exceptional financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills. Deep knowledge of GAAP, compliance requirements, and audit processes. Effective communicator with ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights. Strong leadership, collaboration, and team development skills.
