Overview
This position provides psychiatric services in the Mental Health Division (MHD) of the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS). Duties include managing a caseload, providing consultations, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Telemedicine may be used, and there may be opportunities to supervise residents and fellows, engage in leadership activities, or develop medical services in inpatient and/or outpatient settings. The physician is expected to qualify for a faculty appointment with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and be board certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology where applicable. Responsibilities
Carry a caseload and provide consultation to other mental health and non-mental health clinical programs. Work in one or more Mental Health programs located in the Portland metropolitan area or in other urban or rural areas in Oregon. Collaborate with VA primary care clinics where programs are co-located; telemedicine may be used to deliver clinical care. Supervise residents and fellows as required; engage in leadership activities; or develop medical services in inpatient and/or outpatient arenas. Participate as an integral part of patient care, teaching, and research activities in collaboration with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Maintain Board Certification (or Board-Eligible) in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Work schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm PST, Monday–Friday. Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship; Doctor of Medicine (or equivalent) from an approved medical school; current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States; completion of residency training in an approved program leading to eligibility for board certification; for academic appointments, board certification may be required for faculty status; proficiency in spoken and written English; and any additional program-specific requirements (board certification or board-eligible in General Psychiatry by ABPN). Eligibility requirements must be met per VHA policy, and EDRP applications must be submitted within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
