Overview

Associate Director, Construction & Project Safety, Research Compliance Location: Boston, MA, United States. Full-Time/Regular position. The Associate Director, Construction and Project Safety is part of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Department and reports to the Director of Occupational Safety. This role develops, implements, oversees, and enforces safety processes for construction and renovation projects through design, construction, commissioning, and turnover. It serves as the primary EHS contact for planning and renovation projects and collaborates with others in EHS as needed. This position supports safety across Boston University properties and Boston Medical Center properties located adjacent to the Boston University Medical Campus. The role operates in a fast-paced environment across university and hospital operations and works with research, academic, healthcare, and service departments within a large research institution, medical school, and teaching hospital. It is part of a diverse EHS team with extensive experience across all EHS disciplines. Responsibilities

Collaborate with BU space, design, and project managers and related staff to ensure safety requirements are included in design and planning, in alignment with local regulators and authorities having jurisdiction. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive construction safety programs, plans, policies, and procedures (e.g., Pre-Construction Risk Assessments, NFPA 241 compliance, Infection Control Risk Assessments, hot work permitting, safety occupancy checklists, site inspections, accident and construction incident reports, contractor safety training requirements). Coordinate as the central EHS liaison between planning and construction operations and other EHS staff, as well as with regulatory authorities. Perform routine site visits to verify compliance and sign off on design for regulatory components. Interact with contractors or contractor safety officers to ensure BU campus safety processes, standards, and reporting requirements are followed, and manage corrective action plans as needed. Review construction inspection findings, identify trends, and develop corrective action plans to address areas of concern. Qualifications
