Job Summary
Psychiatrists are needed to staff the San Francisco County Jail, which has a large number of patients in need of psychiatric care. This clinician will have outpatient clinical responsibilities at the San Francisco County Jail treating a population that is largely seriously mentally ill. Patients under the care of this clinician have been found "incompetent to stand trial" by the criminal court and have been enrolled in the Early Access and Stabilization Services program under the purview of the CA Dept of State Hospitals. The clinician will see patients enrolled in the EASS program for weekly visits for medication management, and will work closely with a masters-level, DPH-employed, EASS clinician who is tasked with counseling these patients on restoration of competency to stand trial. San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) provides integrated medical, psychiatric, and addiction treatment. It is the largest provider of acute psychiatric care and the only San Francisco provider of psychiatric emergency care.
Required Qualifications
MD or equivalent, board certified/eligible in Psychiatry
Graduate of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry training program
License to practice medicine in California and DEA certification required
Experience in the treatment of psychiatric patients in an outpatient setting
Demonstrated skills in diagnosis, treatment planning (including pharmacotherapy), and legal issues
Demonstrated administrative skills
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated cultural competence in working with underserved and culturally diverse populations
Bilingual and/or bicultural background is highly desirable
Forensic psychiatry certification
License/Certification
MD or equivalent, board certified/eligible in Psychiatry

License to practice medicine in California and DEA certification required
