Overview CASES is a New York City agency at the forefront of the intersection between behavioral health and involvement in the criminal justice system. Our mission is to increase public safety through innovative services that reduce crime and incarceration, improve behavioral health, promote recovery and rehabilitation, and create community success opportunities. The Behavioral Health division consists of a continuum of services for justice-involved individuals with serious mental illness. The Nathaniel Clinic located in the Bronx provides outpatient mental health and substance use services to adolescents and adults, focusing on providing care to those involved in the criminal legal system.
Salary The salary for the Part-time Medical Director role is $165 per hour.
Shift Hours The Part-time Medical Director position is a part-time role working 5 to 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Location 424 East 147th Street, Bronx, New York 10455
Workplace Flexibility Hybrid (for roles that have at least 1 full day remote per week)
What you will be doing
Supervise psychiatric providers (psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners)
Recruitment and retention of high quality, mission-driven psychiatric providers
Create, implement, and monitor adherence to policies related to psychiatric services such as medication prescribing, monitoring side effects, integration with medical services, specialized services and psychotherapy for those interested
Review and revise the psychiatric documentation in the clinic’s electronic medical record
Management / oversight of the implementation of buprenorphine / naloxone prescribing
In collaboration with clinic leadership, implementation and proper execution of telepsychiatry services for select patient encounters
Participation and leadership in regular clinic meetings, including high risk rounds, staff meetings, budget and operational meetings, and clinic leadership meetings
Serve as the clinic liaison to the city’s psychiatric hospitals (both acute and state) and CPEP / emergency rooms
Participate in regular supervision and strategic planning sessions with the Chief Medical Officer
In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, design, build, implement and supervise psychiatric and psychiatric NP training programs
Serve as the clinical lead for the Incident Review Committee
At least 70% of their time per week is dedicated to direct patient care unless otherwise directed by senior leadership
Help maintain a safe and clean environment, ensuring proper use and disposal of medical supplies / equipment as required, adheres to infection control protocols, and notifies their supervisor immediately of any potential safety hazard identified in the office / client-care environment
Any other duties as required by the senior clinical leadership
What we are looking for
Board-certified Psychiatrist M.D. or D.O. degree with active New York State license in good standing
Graduate of ACGME-accredited psychiatry training program if applicable
ABPN Board-certified or equivalent certification of competence
At least two years of experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorder
At least two years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults
Excellent diagnostic, clinical formulation, and treatment skills
Strong leadership abilities and flexibility to work successfully with a wide range of multi-disciplinary staff
MAT-waivered or ability to receive a waiver within 3 months of hire
Additional, preferred skills
Experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system
