About The Team: The Webapp Infrastructure (WIN) pillar provides the tools to enable hundreds of developers to work in a large codebase with safety and productivity at the forefront. The Webapp Infra Reliability Engineering (WIRE) team develops, runs, and scales core components of Slack’s Webapp Infrastructure and Product. We own, maintain, and improve systems powering Slack’s API servers, asynchronous job processing, caching, and rate limiting, and we drive reliability, infrastructure upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and operational efficiency. We collaborate with Infrastructure and Product engineering teams to improve shared technology and processes. This role is open for the WIRE team. What You Will Be Doing Directly support multiple components of Webapp’s infrastructure, including monitoring, visibility automation, and other infrastructure tooling. Define and build solutions to improve the reliability and resilience of services. Write code to automate maintenance and reduce manual intervention. Help define SLA/SLOs for Webapp infrastructure, manage deployments, fixes, software updates, and automate operational processes. Participate in on-call rotation, triage production issues, and respond to incidents. Review code and mentor other engineers, while being mentored in return. What You Should Have Experience with software development, including operations and infrastructure tooling. Experience managing production infrastructure with emphasis on reliability and uptime; customer-focused on operational safety. Experience with functional or imperative languages such as Ruby and Go. Experience with Chef, Terraform, cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS), IAMs, Docker, Linux, and observability tools (Logstash, Kibana, Prometheus, Grafana). Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across teams on cross-functional projects. Familiarity with operational metrics, incident management, and debugging. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience. Bonus Points Experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or platform/infrastructure engineer building reliability mechanisms on distributed systems. Experience deploying, operating, and debugging distributed systems on Linux at scale. Experience with AWS infrastructure at scale. Experience with HHVM, mcrouter, and memcached. Ability to dive deep across stack layers from networking to packaging; experience with regulated environments (FEDRAMP/NIST).
