The Global Health unit supports IFC’s sector strategy and delivery of investment and advisory activities across health services, life sciences, and medtech. The unit partners with World Bank and regional teams to inform policy reforms and private sector initiatives that strengthen health systems and resilience. IFC’s Global Health Advisory Program offers tools and guidance to enhance healthcare quality, efficiency, and access. Programs include Healthcare Quality Advisory, Ethical Principals in Health Care (EPiHC), Health Benchmarking, Resource Efficiency/Decarbonization in Pharma Manufacturing, and DigiHealth/Digipharma. The Program collaborates with IFC’s regional advisory teams and public-private partnerships to grow impact. IFC is seeking a Health Industry Specialist with broad experience in health services, life sciences, and medtech to lead advisory initiatives in the sector within the Global Health unit. Duties and Accountabilities
Advisory and Program management Lead Digihealth/Digipharma and other advisory programs to ensure high-quality client deliverables and meet governance and results reporting requirements. Explore and lead collaboration opportunities with the World Bank and other partners, including digital transformation initiatives. Lead or support risk mitigation activities related to private sector involvement in health sectors. Origination and pipeline management Support teams in assessing needs and opportunities for investment and/or advisory services for health services and life sciences; differentiate IFC offerings by client and market maturity. Coordinate and participate in origination and business development activities for advisory services and ensure timely follow-through. Provide appraisal support on sector-specific risks and issues (including cyber security, quality, ethics) in collaboration with other industry specialists. Client engagement Join client discussions on sector-specific risks identified during appraisal and develop mitigation solutions, including IFC advisory solutions for digital transformation. Coordinate and support delivery of advisory engagements within agreed scope and timeline; provide expert input on other advisory engagements. Coordinate a team of specialists for each client engagement, clarifying roles and delivery expectations; incorporate input from internal reviewers as needed. Provide quality control of client deliverables to ensure data accuracy and relevance of conclusions and recommendations. Product development/Knowledge management Capture learnings from client engagements and share within IFC and, where relevant, externally. Coordinate periodic review of advisory offerings and shape adjustments based on client and market maturity. Contribute to sector knowledge management through case studies, industry overviews, and primers; lead or support new initiatives including impact studies. Selection Criteria
Master’s or advanced degree in a related field and at least 12+ years in operational and managerial roles in the private health sector or consultancy for private health companies. Strong understanding of the private health value chain, with ability to identify opportunities and risks (operational, quality, ethics). Strong understanding of health digital solutions and applications for the private sector. Proven track record in managing diverse teams (colleagues, consultants, client representatives) to achieve goals. Experience in business development, client relationship nurturing, and issue resolution. Experience managing project budgets, timelines, staff, and consultants. Collaborative mindset as a team player, leader, and strategic thinker; ability to represent IFC externally and manage stakeholder relationships. Sound business judgment with a proven ability to deliver results in challenging conditions. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; ability to work in additional languages (e.g., Spanish or Portuguese) is a plus. Willingness to travel globally on a regular basis.
