Position Summary
We are seeking a Commercial Litigation Attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. This role is vital for law firms that handle corporate clients, as it ensures legal representation in high-stakes corporate disputes.
Role and Responsibilities
Lead Advocacy: Represent clients as lead in depositions, court hearings, mediations, and other legal proceedings; as lead counsel in smaller arbitrations and trials; and as second chair or co-lead in larger arbitrations and trials.
Litigation Management: Handle complex commercial litigation cases involving issues such as breach of contract, corporate governance, intellectual property disputes, mergers and acquisitions, securities law, and antitrust matters.
Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to identify relevant laws, precedents, and best practices. Apply legal principles to provide solutions to clients' problems.
Drafting Legal Documents: Prepare legal pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery documents, and other required filings. Ensure all documents comply with relevant laws and regulations.
Strategic Legal Counsel: Provide ongoing legal advice to corporate clients on risk management, compliance, and strategic decisions related to litigation. Guide clients on matters like dispute resolution, mergers, and acquisitions.
Settlement Negotiations: Engage in settlement negotiations on behalf of clients, aiming to resolve disputes favorably without going to trial when possible.
Collaboration: Work closely with other attorneys, legal staff, and corporate clients to develop litigation strategies. Collaborate with expert witnesses, consultants, and other professionals as necessary.
Case Management: Oversee all aspects of litigation, including pre-trial motions, discovery, witness preparation, trial, and post-trial procedures.
Billing and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all client work, track billable hours, and ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in the state of Texas, in good standing
5-7 years of experience in commercial litigation
Significant experience handling depositions and in-court advocacy at hearings
Experience handling evidentiary and legal arguments as well as direct- and cross-examination of witnesses at trial
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle complex legal issues with precision and professionalism
High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Proficient in legal research tools and litigation software
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with trial preparation and presentation and with managing high-stakes litigation
Proven ability to lead and mentor junior attorneys and legal staff
Compensation and Benefits
160,000 to $200,000 based on experience
