Overview
The Head of Benefits is a strategic leader responsible for the design, execution, and oversight of CRC Group’s employee benefits programs. This role ensures that offerings remain competitive, cost-efficient, and fully compliant, while aligning with the company’s culture and long-term business objectives. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in self-insured health plan management, strong financial acumen, and a proven ability to lead through complexity—including M&A activity and organizational growth. This role serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and plays a central role in shaping CRC Group’s total rewards philosophy. This role is based in our Charlotte, NC headquarters with the following hybrid schedule: In office Monday - Thursday, Friday optional. Responsibilities

Oversee health & welfare programs ($100M budget and retirement plan assets $1.6B) Lead plan design, funding strategy, and claims analysis across self-insured medical, life, LTD, IDI, leave, ADA, wellness, and point solutions Manage qualified and non-qualified defined contribution plans and executive benefits Partner with actuaries, brokers, and TPAs to optimize performance and manage risk Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive benefits strategy that supports organizational goals Serve as a thought leader on emerging trends in benefits, wellness, and total rewards Work in close partnership with key stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure alignment and sustained engagement Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other regulations Lead audits, filings, and reporting requirements related to benefits programs Responsible for coordinating regular Employee Benefits Fiduciary Committee meetings, assisting with developing Charter, agendas, meeting minutes Partner with internal and external ERISA counsel to mitigate legal and operational risks M&A and Due Diligence Benefits Strategy
Review existing target benefit plans to identify liabilities, compliance issues, and cost implications Align target benefit offerings across organizations to support retention, equity, and cultural cohesion Lead messaging around benefit changes to reduce uncertainty and maintain trust during the transition Financial Acumen, Vendor & Budget Oversight
Oversee benefits budgeting, including forecasting, reconciliation, financial reporting, and cost optimization strategies Build and manage strategic vendor partnerships to ensure cost-effective, high-quality service delivery across all benefit programs Lead contract negotiations and performance monitoring to drive value and accountability Direct fee benchmarking Maintain rigorous invoice reconciliation protocols to ensure financial integrity Collaborate with Finance to develop and monitor IBNR and other reserve methodologies for accurate liability management Employee Experience & Communication
Design and deliver engaging benefits communications and education campaigns Champion employee wellness initiatives and drive participation in health programs Serve as a trusted advisor to HR business partners and senior leadership Develop and maintain benefits intranet resource Team Leadership
Lead and mentor a team of benefits professionals Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
