Overview
Life Sciences Research Professional 1 (LSRP 1) for the Shared FACS Facility at the School of Medicine, Stanford, California. The facility provides high-quality flow cytometry services and applications to researchers at Stanford and regional institutions. This is a fast-paced environment with a variety of research applications and instrumentation. This is a customer-facing position requiring good communication skills, enthusiasm for teaching others, and reliable time management in an appointment-based facility. The successful applicant will be trained in cutting-edge flow cytometry and will assist users in novel research using multicolor sorting and analysis.
Responsibilities
Independently operate cell analysis and sorting instruments in the Stanford Shared FACS Facility service center.
Perform routine maintenance on facility equipment, including startup and QC of cytometers.
Understand and utilize common and unique biological applications, cell handling techniques, and reagents used by researchers, and assist in designing and optimizing FACS experiments.
Collaborate with research staff on updates to FACS facility instruments and computer capabilities.
Maintain a flexible schedule and work in a BSL-2 environment to meet facility needs.
Provide training to assist self-operators to improve skills in all aspects of FACS and CyTOF instrument function.
Assist researchers in data interpretation.
Perform general lab maintenance, manage lab stock, chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
Other duties may be assigned.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in flow cytometry or lab experience in biological sciences is a plus.
Education & Experience (required) Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (required)
General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills when needed.
Ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principles to problem solve work.
Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
Position may require repetitive motion.

The expected pay range for this position is $32.58 to $38.48 per hour.
