POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Clinical Manager ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients. Provides drug information to patients and families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Involves education of pharmacists, residents and students. Serves as a resource and drug expert in one of the seven specialty areas. Strives to increase knowledge through research and writing activities. The Clinical Specialist may also be involved, as necessary, in coordinating the acquisition, distribution and control of drug therapy for patients under the care of the pharmacist. Position:

Responsibilities

Ensure optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients.

Provide drug information to patients and families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Educate pharmacists, residents and students; serve as a resource and drug expert in one of the seven specialty areas.

Increase knowledge through research and writing activities.

Involve in coordinating the acquisition, distribution and control of drug therapy for patients under the care of the pharmacist, as necessary.

Qualifications

Education:

Work requires at a minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and at least five years of pertinent work experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and post-graduate training, with at least three years of pertinent work experience, or a Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy with post-graduate training or at least two years of pertinent work experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:

Work requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts.

Knowledge and Skills:

Work requires substantial interpersonal skills towards our customers (particularly patients, physicians and nurses) and fellow employees of the hospital.
