Reporting to the SVP of Hospital-Based Specialties, the Director Respiratory Care develops, plans, implements, directs, and evaluates activities, resources, programs and services for all areas within the Division of Respiratory Care Services. Responsible for overall direction and operational success in accordance with national standards and CNH policies and procedures.

Required Skills/Knowledge

Expertise in the area of specialty.

Strong knowledge of Joint Commission, DOH and other regulatory agency requirements.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Familiar with department budget and interpersonal communication.

Prior knowledge and experience with Respiratory therapies.

Familiar with department budgets, statistics, and data analysis.

Required Licenses and Certifications

Registered Respiratory Therapist DC Respiratory Care License (Required)

Functional Accountabilities

Education and Research

Oversee ongoing clinical education and competency training of all levels of staff.

Direct the clinical educator to achieve and maintain the skills needed for professionals to perform at a high level on the acute care wards, emergency department, and critical care units.

In collaboration with the Medical Director, provide ongoing evaluation of all existing therapies for clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness, and introduce new respiratory care technologies as appropriate.

Collaborate with the Simulation Center to provide year-round high fidelity simulation-based training and skills acquisition and retention by staff.

Support clinical research as requested by the Division of Critical Care, Neonatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ECMO, and Transport Medicine.

Director will oversee the collaboration and participation in multi-center clinical trials.

Create active research collaborations in the field of pediatric cardiopulmonary medicine with ECMO program, Divisions of Critical Care, Neonatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Transport Medicine.

Critically evaluate the existing therapies for clinical and cost effectiveness and introduce new cardiopulmonary technologies.

Strategic Planning

Contributes to the strategic plan for department services, including short-term and long-term objectives.

Collects and analyzes customer feedback and evaluates department effectiveness.

Incorporates findings into plans to modify program and service delivery.

Plans, implements, directs and evaluates assigned department on a strategic and operational level to ensure the organization’s move to Top Tier and Employer of Choice.

Monitors department processes and seeks opportunities to improve operations.

Program/Service Administration, Implementation and Human Resources Management

Implements strategic plan through management of day-to-day operations of the department

Ensures compliance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, and regulatory standards

Sees the potential in and understands the use of administrative and clinical information resources and decision-support tools in process and performance improvement

Proficient in compiling and analyzing data to support upper management decision-making

Ensures that performance evaluations, medical requirements and all other organizational circuit breakers for all staff are complete and on time

Establishes, builds and sustains professional contacts for the purpose of building networks of people with similar goals that support similar interests

Leads, coaches, and mentors frontline managers and supervisors

Monitors staffing plans/schedules to optimize productivity and ensure quality services

Budget and Financial Management

Participates in financial planning and budget preparation.

Manages department budget to ensure financial stability of the department.

Tracks, monitors, and evaluates budget for all line items.

Develops recommendations to meet budget requirements.

Ensures billing accuracy and compliance for both technical (facility) and professional (faculty) billing systems.

Project and Equipment Management

Develops business plans for new programs, sites, or equipment

Creates project plans with milestones, deliverables, and accountability assignments

Delivers projects on time and on budget

Manages inventory of major imaging equipment

Participates in purchasing and contract negotiations for major imaging equipment acquisitions

Manages multiple major equipment service agreements
