Statutory Accountant
based in our Stamford, CT office within the Finance Unit. The position is hybrid, requiring in-office presence at least two days per week. Role Description
The Statutory Accountant is responsible for supporting our core Property and Casualty (P&C) accounting operations, contributing to and learning financial reporting on a Statutory and US GAAP basis while gaining hands-on exposure to regulatory schedules and compliance issues related to the unique environment of reinsurance accounting for General Reinsurance Corporation (GRC) and its Canadian Branch operation. The candidate will additionally gain exposure to Gen Re’s direct insurance subsidiaries and interact with client accounting, operations, claims and actuarial departments to support reporting and analysis needs. Primary Responsibilities
General Ledger Maintenance: Exposure to suspense accounts, inter-company account balancing, fixed assets, pre-paid expenses and other required postings. Account Reconciliations: Exposure to monthly account reconciliations and reconciliation journal entries. Monthly Closing: Support cash and investment close process including monthly foreign exchange revaluation and balance sheet currency translation adjustments. Quarterly Closing: Obtain system closing reports and posting of required closing entries. Audit Support: Input and maintenance of control files that create audit support schedules. Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of U.S. statutory basis financial statements and other regulatory schedules including exposure to Schedule F and Schedule P. Gain familiarity with Canadian reporting requirements on an IFRS basis. Gain familiarity with reporting requirements of direct insurance company reporting. Role Qualifications and Experience
5 years of Property & Casualty insurance/reinsurance experience BS/BA degree in accounting or finance Familiarity with Statutory Accounting Practices and Procedures and US GAAP Working knowledge of SAP preferred Expertise in Excel and ability to work with large amounts of data using pivot tables and array formulas Knowledge and experience working with MS Access with relational databases and SQL queries MS Power BI knowledge Good communication and organizational skills Strong team collaboration Ability to work effectively across departments Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize accordingly and to perform under tight reporting deadlines Salary Range
