Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Systems Test Engineering General Summary:

This position leads, plans, and synthesizes ambiguous or conflicting requirements and performs testing and modification of general systems-level software/hardware, specialized utilities and/or hardware. It involves interpreting wireless specifications, designing test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures, and documenting systems-level defects using a bug tracking system while reporting defects to developers. Responsibilities include identifying, analyzing, troubleshooting, and documenting problems with program function, output, or content; developing testing programs to assess the effectiveness of a new system or modifications to an existing system; conducting log analyses with team members to identify issue locations and recommending solutions; verifying that proposed solutions address identified issues without impacting other functionalities; reviewing functional tests and adding additional test cases as needed; reviewing results documents to determine root causes of testing errors and the best debugging approaches. The role prioritizes errors, identifies test requirements with minimal oversight, and participates in project reviews to provide feedback on testing problems. It involves mentoring engineers, addressing general technical issues, deciding whether issues should be tested in the field or in the lab, and collaborating with functional and lab teams, IO teams, network operators, field teams, and product management to ensure testing plans address feature issues. The role includes implementing a testing plan by attempting to cause failures in multiple areas of code, working on 3GPP releases for 5G/NR (Rel 15, 16, 17 and 18), Sub-6 and mmWave technologies on cutting-edge devices, protocol verification of latest features (e.g., Carrier Aggregation, NTN, SUL), and collaborating with infra vendors (Keysight, Amarisoft, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung). It also entails designing test cases to stress features in concurrency with subsystems like CPU, GPU, Camera, and AI, and contributing actively to design reviews and project meetings while implementing a development plan.
