FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATOR, College of Communication
Boston University's College of Communication seeks a detail oriented Financial/Business Administrator. The candidate will report to the Executive Director of Finance and support the College of Communication's financial and administrative functions. The position collaborates with COM Departments to create efficiency in departmental processes and provides customer service to students, faculty and external constituents. Duties include maintaining budget adherence, managing reconciliation, travel requests, reimbursements, honoraria, and connecting programs to additional funding resources within the college. The role supports Deans, faculty, staff, and students across day-to-day financial, academic, logistical, and administrative needs. Other responsibilities include maintaining the internal project database, billing clients, preparing revenue reports, checking the status of pending commitments, student payroll, filing and archiving pertinent information, onboarding new hires and other human resources tasks, and supporting other financial operations of the college. The position requires high attention to detail, accuracy, strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and good communication and customer service skills.
Position details
Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance, this full-time hybrid position is based on the Boston University campus and is eligible for the University's comprehensive benefits program for staff. The Financial Administrator will maintain a 3/2 hybrid work modality. To receive full consideration, applicants should submit a resume and cover letter.
Responsibilities (percent of time)
Student Payroll (30%): work with faculty and staff to assess needs for student workers, post and hire student employees, process Work Study Awards in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Financial Aid for Graduate Students when processing Teaching, Graduate and Research Assistants.
Procurement and Travel (20%): create purchase requisitions, act as departmental liaison for procurement inquiries, purchases may be made via university procurement credit card, SAP Guided Buying, or internal service requests; manage travel requests, reimbursements, and honorarium; connect programs to funding resources within the college.
Grant Administration (20%): work with the Office of Sponsored Programs and faculty on Pre-Award activities (budget review, documentation) and Post-Award management (compliance and reporting).
Financial Management (20%): maintain budget adherence and reconciliation across all departments, grants, and designated funding; manage restricted funds with quarterly reports to fund managers.
Business Office Administration (10%): provide high-level customer service on sourcing and procurement, student payroll, and general finance questions; assist with mailroom distribution, guest parking passes, and one-off room requests.
Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
Ability to input and work with large data sets with very high attention to detail.
Experience maintaining computer databases and spreadsheets; discretion with confidential information.
Strong verbal and written communication, excellent customer service orientation, and ability to work with a diverse population.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $53,200 - $71,900 annually. This range is based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and the overall scope of the role.
