Ability to Obtain NACI The Multispecialty Surgery Coder II

will code for Multispecialty Surgery physicians primarily Single Path Coding. Multispecialty surgical coding experience (e.g., Trauma, Urology, ENT, Plastics, GenSurg, OB/GYN, Cardiovascular, Interventional Radiology, etc.). Ability to extract data and apply ICD-10 Diagnosis codes, along with CPT/HCPCS codes as defined for the service type, for coding, billing, internal and external reporting, research as required, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of the coding manager, the coder should accurately code conditions and procedures as documented and in accordance with ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS/MAC rules and CPT rules established by the AMA, and any other official coding guidelines established for use with mandated standard code sets. The coder scope may involve reviewing coding-related denials from payers and recommending the appropriate action to resolve the claim based on payer guidelines. This position

is full time and 100% remote.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates the ability to perform quality surgical coding and multispecialty chart types as assigned

Maintains a working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing

Assures that all services documented in the patient’s chart are coded with appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes. When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seeks to attain proper documentation in a timely manner according to facility standards

Achieves and maintains 97% accuracy in coding while maintaining a high level of productivity. Accuracy will be monitored during monthly reviews either within the facility

Maintains average productivity standards as specified

Works the review queue daily to ensure all charts in the queue are worked and any corrections are communicated to the facility if necessary

Charts that require re-bills are corrected and communicated to the facility daily for the re-bill process. See facility guidelines

Downtime is reported immediately to the administrative staff to ensure turnaround is met

Works with IQC staff to ensure quality standards are met for each facility

Provides accurate answers to physicians’/hospital’s coding and/or billing questions within eight hours of request

Responsible for coding or pending every chart placed in their queue within 24 hours

Notifies administrative staff if they cannot meet the 24-hour turnaround standard

Coders check the Guidehouse email system at least every two hours during coding sessions

Maintain current professional credentials while working for Guidehouse

Become familiar with the Guidehouse coding website and use it as a daily tool

Maintain HIPAA compliant workstations (reference HIPAA workstation policy)

Review and adhere to the coding division policy and procedure manual content

Collaborate with the facility’s coding and billing team to maximize efficiency and reimbursement

Communicate problems or coding principle discrepancies to their supervisor immediately

Professional email communication is expected (reference email policy)

What You Will Do

Demonstrates the ability to perform quality E/M coding and surgical coding on assigned Hospitalist encounters

Maintains a working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing

Ensures services documented in the chart are coded with appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes; if documentation is lacking, obtains proper documentation per facility standards

Achieves and maintains 97% accuracy in coding with high productivity

Maintains average productivity standards as specified

Manages the review queue daily and communicates corrections to the facility as needed

Corrects re-bill issues and communicates with the facility daily per policy

Reports downtime to ensure turnaround goals are met

Collaborates with IQC staff to uphold quality standards

Provides timely answers to coding/billing questions

Ensures all charts in queue are coded within 24 hours

Notifies administration if the 24-hour target cannot be met

Checks Guidehouse email during sessions every two hours

Maintains current credentials and uses Guidehouse resources to correctly code and abstract for each facility

Maintains HIPAA compliant workstations

Follows coding division policies and procedures and works with team for efficiency

Professional communication in emails is expected

What You Will Need

High School Diploma/GED

One of the following certifications: CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS

Successful completion of a recognized medical coding training program

EMR experience

Must maintain credential throughout employment

What Would Be Nice To Have

Additional certifications: CEMC or NAMAS CEMA

Ability to work independently, multi-task, and interface with all levels of personnel and clients

Knowledge of Federal & State coding regulations, DHA or Military Health experience

Experience with multiple EMR and/or Practice Management systems

Single path coding experience

The annual salary range for this position is $46,000.00-$76,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
