Build and maintain scalable ETL pipelines Design our Analytics and Business Intelligence architecture, assessing and implementing new technologies where fitting Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure robust instrumentation across areas of the product Become a subject matter expert on Retool’s data sources, maintain data lineage documentation, and promote transparency for end users Support data governance, ensuring alignment with data privacy standards and regulations Participate in code reviews and adhere to coding standards and best practices Partner with business teams to deploy robust reports and analyses, surfacing key insights that shape Retool’s future Develop dashboards and define metrics that drive key business decisions Take ownership of the data stack to ensure teammates can access the data they need and that technical teams can implement events efficiently Who You'll Work With
As part of our data team, you’ll work with stakeholders across finance, marketing, engineering, product, operations, and support, joining a broader team passionate about serving customers and building an innovative product. The Skillset You'll Bring
Background in Analytics Engineering, Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or Data Analytics Ideally 4+ years of experience managing and building large, complex data sets across multiple sources Strong SQL and data modeling skills with practical data modeling approaches Experience implementing data quality frameworks with automated testing and monitoring Commitment to creating data documentation for self-service analytics Ability to optimize cloud database performance through query tuning and thoughtful design Excellent business acumen to translate stakeholder requirements into data models Hands-on experience with data orchestration/transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Dagster, Airflow) Experience with cloud data warehouses (Databricks, Snowflake) Familiarity with git workflows and scripting languages (Python and/or R) Skilled at data visualization and communicating insights to varied audiences Growth mindset, self-starter, and collaborative Data-driven problem solving and systems thinking Startup experience preferred but not required Standout Candidates Will Bring
Deep dbt knowledge and ability to write maintainable jinja for dbt deployments Experience influencing and developing relationships to foster a data-driven culture Deep experience with Spark/Databricks SQL and Delta Lake Experience with the Databricks platform (Unity Catalog, Workflows, DLT, MLflow) UX-minded experience designing usable data products Experience modeling data for complex, technical products, especially developer tools Compensation and Benefits
For candidates based in San Francisco, pay ranges are provided for base salary and on-target earnings (OTE) where applicable. Compensation may vary by location, scope, responsibilities, and experience. Additional compensation may include equity and bonuses.
