Under direction, supervises assistant supervisors and a large group of custodial employees engaged in cleaning activities in large public buildings, other facilities, and surrounding areas at various sites, and performs related duties as required. The essential functions include assigning and supervising custodial staff; developing, updating and evaluating work and safety standards, policies and procedures; assisting in the development of the facility maintenance plan; maintaining personnel records and work schedules; evaluating subordinates\' performance, counseling, documenting, initiating and participating in the disciplinary process; coordinating, planning, and supervising custodial operations for special events; communicating with staff, clients, vendors, and administrators; receiving, investigating, responding, and/or resolving complaints regarding custodial services; making field checks of assigned buildings and ensuring completion of work assignments; monitoring and/or participating in moving furniture and equipment; coordinating inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment; and driving a motor vehicle to reach job sites to facilitate custodial operations. Requisitions and maintains inventory of janitorial supplies, materials and equipment; maintains records of usage manually or by using automated systems. Maintains personnel, time, and vacation/holiday records and work schedules; prepares and evaluates time records and other related reports to ensure staffing needs and day-to-day operational needs. Develops, updates, and evaluates work and/or safety standards, policies and procedures by inspecting the quality of custodial services in public buildings; enforces standards, suggests improvements, and conducts safety training meetings. Monitors and/or participates in furniture and equipment moving activities to prevent safety hazards; completes industrial accident forms when necessary; responds or makes recommendations to emergency situations. Makes field checks of buildings and other assigned areas to maintain standards of work performance and progress; ensures quality and scope of all completed work; inspects and secures public buildings. Receives, investigates, responds, and/or resolves complaints regarding custodial services. Evaluates subordinates\' performance; writes evaluations; counsels, documents, and initiates/participates in the disciplinary process to enforce policies and procedures. Coordinates operation and care of custodial tools and equipment; distributes and collects keys and equipment, and issues supplies to custodial employees. Assists in the development of the facility maintenance plan and work schedules; inspects, verifies, and ensures completion of work assignments according to schedules. May serve as a contact person for the public and other departments regarding custodial services. Communicates with staff, clients, vendors, and administrators in person or in writing by preparing and completing forms, reports, memos and email. Drives motor vehicle to reach various job sites to facilitate custodial operations. Coordinates, plans, organizes, schedules, and supervises custodial operations for special events. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications
1. Experience:
Two (2) years of verifiable experience as a custodial supervisor (equivalent to City class 2716) responsible for supervising a large group of employees engaged in custodial work; AND 2. License:
Possession of a valid driver\'s license. Note:
All appointees will be required to possess and maintain a good driving record. Depending on the availability of City vehicles, willingness to use their own vehicle may be necessary. Essential duties
require physical exertion with varying shifts, weekends and holidays; sustaining physical effort involving walking, standing and heavy lifting during the entire shift, and occasional exposure to hazards. Employees may be required to lift up to 60 pounds. One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours. Any overtime hours above 40 per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment. Eligible List/Score Report The eligible list is confidential and used for certification. An examination score report will show ranks and final scores. The list may be made public upon request after exhaustion or expiry. The list/score report may change after adoption as directed by HR or the Civil Service Commission. The list is valid for 12 months and may be extended with approval.
