The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide same-day acute care to patients presenting with a wide range of health concerns, including respiratory infections, sore throats, ear infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin rashes, minor burns, lacerations, musculoskeletal injuries such as fractures, sprains and strains, and other conditions. The PA will also play a key role in improving access for primary care patients with both chronic and acute needs. This position provides patient care coverage seven days a week, including various holidays, across multiple Express Care locations: Vista, La Jolla, Eastlake, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Downtown, Virtual Express Care, and future Express Care clinics within the division. The PA will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to ensure continuity and quality of care. They will assess patients and take appropriate clinical actions based on their training, competence, and scope of practice. Must be able to float to other Express Care locations as needed. Locations
across multiple Express Care locations: Vista, La Jolla, Eastlake, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Downtown, Virtual Express Care, and future Express Care clinics within the division. The PA will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to ensure continuity and quality of care. They will assess patients and take appropriate clinical actions based on their training, competence, and scope of practice. Minimum Qualifications Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). California Physician Assistant (PA) license. Current PA Certification from NCCPA. BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date. Current PALS certification, or required to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Minimum one (1) year of full-time work experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in an Emergency Department, Urgent Care, or an Express Care type clinic. Ability to perform triage and handle critical and/or urgent situations with accuracy, expediency, and tact. Ability to manage own patient load. Must be able to work within a team environment. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Three (3+) or more years of recent PA experience in Emergency and/or Urgent Care. Telemedicine or video visit experience. High-acuity triage and critical care experience. Urgent and primary care procedural experience (e.g. suturing, stapling, I&D, EKG and Basic Radiology interpretation). Special Conditions Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. Variable work schedule. Must be able to work every other weekend and some holidays. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
