Texas Nurses Association
Overview
The Texas Nurses Association is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee the finance and accounting functions of the Texas Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Foundation, and related entities and programs. The Director will ensure accounting policies, procedures and controls are in place and accounting functions are completed timely and accurately, will monitor cash flow, investments, and assets to ensure financial health and liquidity, and will prepare financial statements, variance reports, and forecasts for leadership. The Director will also lead the budgeting process and present budgets for approval, as well as manage and coordinate the annual financial audits and tax filings, and prepare and submit lobbying/PAC reports and tax reports timely. The Director serves as the staff liaison to the Audit/Finance and Investment Committees and prepares and presents quarterly reports for the Board of Directors. As a member of the leadership team, The Director participates in strategic planning and other association initiatives, and provides leadership, mentoring and guidance to finance/accounting staff.
Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting
Oversees all financial operations of TNA and related entities, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, credit card and expense reports, and month-end close
Monitors cash flow, investments and assets to ensure financial health and liquidity
Prepares and presents monthly and annual financial statements for the leadership team, including variance analysis and forecasting throughout the year to ensure budgets remain on track
Budgeting & Forecasting
Leads the budgeting process for TNA and related entities in collaboration with the leadership team
Develops a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs; initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash position
Audit, Compliance & Reporting
Ensures compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and nonprofit financial reporting standards
Prepares and submits lobbying and PAC reports to the Texas Ethics Commission
Prepares and submits quarterly sales tax returns and payments
Manages and coordinates annual financial audits and tax filings for TNA and related entities
Committee Support
Serves as the staff liaison to the TNA and TNF Audit/Finance Committees and the Investment Committee; collaborates with leadership team members to provide support to other committees as needed
Leadership
Collaborates with association leadership and participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan
Prepares quarterly reports regarding financial statements, committees, and other initiatives for meetings of the Board of Directors, highlighting key achievements and opportunities for growth
Presents to the Board of Directors as needed during meetings
Leads the finance/accounting staff, providing mentorship, guidance and performance feedback
Supports finance/accounting staff recruitment, new staff skill development, work climate and staff motivation
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; Master’s degree preferred
At least seven years of finance or accounting experience in a non-profit environment; Five years in a leadership role
Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting rules and processes, including GAAP, FASB, IRS regulations, and audit processes
Experience with budgeting, financial forecasting, and audit preparation
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Excel, and accounting software
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate ideas into actionable plans
Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all levels
Travels locally and statewide as job requires
Some evenings and occasional weekends required
