Overview

Job Title: Global Trade Compliance Director Tenneco is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of automotive products for original equipment and aftermarket customers, covering DRiV, Performance Solutions, Clean Air and Powertrain business groups. The Global Trade Compliance Director will lead the organization's trade and compliance program, ensuring adherence to international trade laws and regulations. This role includes oversight of import/export compliance, risk mitigation related to regulatory matters, and driving strategic trade-related initiatives. The Director will lead a global team and cultivate a high-performance culture aligned with company values. The position may be based in Northville, MI and reports to the VP, Supply Chain Management, CAPT of the company.

Responsibilities

Design, implement and manage a robust trade compliance program for the company, including ongoing development of procedures defining responsibility for supporting operational processes. Assess gaps and mitigate compliance risk.

Develop and deliver an ongoing, tailored training program that includes export control and technology, corporate trade standards, general awareness, risk identification, and escalation. Conduct and/or oversee training as necessary to ensure organizational understanding of policies, procedures and regulatory requirements for customs and trade compliance.

Monitor and manage US customs while minimizing overall risks and costs related to import and export regulations, tariff numbers, tooling/supplier assists, and similar regulations. Develop and maintain country-specific import/export matrices including classifications, license requirements and shipment restrictions.

Represent the company in dealings with customers, suppliers, plants, BU personnel, and government agencies in response to general inquiries on shipments or licenses.

Conduct periodic internal and external compliance assessments of facilities to ensure adherence to policies and procedures and compliance with import/export laws. Coordinate with management on issues, opportunities, recommended solutions and cost savings.

Manage custom brokers' performance and lead the auditing of import/export entries to ensure appropriate classification, valuation, and that all entries comply with applicable laws.

Establish and direct metrics, processes, feedback loops and action plans to drive process improvements and respond to law changes to ensure compliance.

Remain current on regulatory/industry activities that impact the company's business.

Manage North American FTA qualification program, including NAFTA/USMCA compliance and audits.

Ensure the duty drawback program is managed effectively and compliantly.

Manage and mentor a global team of compliance professionals, supporting their professional development.

Education & Experience Education:

Accounting, finance, or law degree from an accredited institution

Experience:

10+ years of experience in international trade compliance, including extensive knowledge of import and export operations in accordance with foreign government regulations.

Skills

Experience reviewing transactions and identifying/addressing compliance risks.

Familiarity with restricted party and third-party screening tools.

Expertise in global trade laws and regulations administered by agencies such as customs authorities, export control offices, and similar international regulatory bodies.

Ability to serve as a subject matter expert on due diligence activities related to mergers and acquisitions.

Solid understanding of commercial practices, including accounting, finance, sales, and marketing.

Experience working in a global manufacturing environment preferred.

Experience engaging with government agencies and legislative committees focused on trade (highly desirable but not required).

Experience with operations under maquiladoras.
