Physician Assistant -Surgery - Cardiothoracic

Job Responsibilities
Provide care for heart and lung surgery patients, always putting the patient first. Help with complex heart surgeries, including a special technique for vein harvesting called endoscopic vein harvesting with the Maquet-Getinge system, and assist during surgeries. Manage care for patients in the ICU and those who have heart surgery, including checking on patients in the CVICU, hospital floors, and clinics. Attend two clinics every week and see extra patients if needed on other days. Work in the operating room from Monday to Friday. Work together with surgeons, doctors, ICU specialists, and other healthcare workers as part of a team. Order and look at lab tests and other medical tests. Create detailed care plans based on test results and follow up on patients. Order medicines and write prescriptions according to rules and policies. Perform bedside procedures that are suitable for the patients. Make sure all clinical notes are accurate and timely. Use good clinical judgment and work independently under the supervision of a doctor. Keep learning through continuing medical education (CME) to improve skills. Work well in a busy clinical environment where things can change quickly. Show flexibility, solve problems, work as a team, and fit well into the workplace culture. Qualifications
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies – REQUIRED. PA-C certification by NCCPA – REQUIRED. At least 3 years of experience in cardiac or cardiovascular surgery and ICU care, or experience with vein harvesting and assisting in surgeries – REQUIRED. Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license to prescribe medications – REQUIRED. Full permission to prescribe medications according to medical staff rules – REQUIRED. Membership with medical staff and appropriate practice privileges – REQUIRED. BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross – REQUIRED. Eligible to provide services that can be paid for by Medicare and Medicaid – REQUIRED. No current or past sanctions from health organizations or lists of excluded individuals – REQUIRED.
