Summary
The physician works with the Section Chief of Diagnostic Radiology and other staff as appropriate. Interprets and performs diagnostic radiology examinations and procedures using state-of-the-art equipment. Works with a collegial group of radiologists and medical center clinicians. Participates in a forum where staff identifies, communicates, and resolves issues related to Radiology Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the VA, ACGME, or AOA. Non-US residency programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the U.S. are also acceptable. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology; fellowship or experience in neuroradiology or musculoskeletal radiology; proficiency in general diagnostic radiology including non-vascular procedures. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 lbs or more), straight pulling (up to 4 hours), pushing (1-2 hours), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking and standing up to 8 hours, repeated bending, rapid mental and muscular coordination, near vision correction, hearing aid permitted. Interpretation and evaluation of radiology exams in general radiology, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and basic diagnostic interventional procedures. Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and American College of Radiology regulations. Provide clinical radiology consultation, protocol optimization, and participate in education and committee activities. Perform basic diagnostic invasive procedures such as lumbar punctures, arthrograms, and US-guided biopsies. Guide technical staff, participate in radiology call pool, and work schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential for a compressed schedule.
