To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification Approved residencies are: (1) ACGME; (2) AOA; or (3) other residencies (non-US residency training followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who would otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they may have a limited "scope of practice" under supervision Additional eligible for surgery residents in gap years Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience: Primary Care experience Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in direct patient care; there may also be extended periods of sitting For more information on qualification standards: https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/ Duties

Recruiting for one experienced, highly qualified Board Certified/Board Eligible physician for the Primary Care Clinic at the Owen/Clark Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) Primary care clinic hours of operation: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday Federal holidays are excluded from normal clinic hours of operation The Chief of Primary Care provides work assignments and professional direction Physician will typically work at the Owen clinic, with possible assignments to Tomah, Lacrosse, or Wisconsin Rapids as staffing changes occur The physician will be granted clinical privileges based on specific expertise Work will commence immediately upon completion of orientation The physician will collaborate with physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, administrative staff, and other allied health professionals to deliver care to veteran patients The medical center uses a computerized medical record system; physician must be familiar with PCs, keyboard skills for data entry (progress notes, orders, H&Ps, discharge summaries), and Windows-based programs Training on the computerized medical record system will be provided by the medical center Specific duties and responsibilities include: follow and meet all medical center policies, rules, and regulations Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification during employment Function as a full team member of the interdisciplinary team serving VA patients Provide history, physical examination, diagnosis, and initiation of medical treatment Initiate and facilitate treatment and transfer in emergency situations Follow-up visits for existing medical problems and diagnostic testing/medication adjustments Refer patients to appropriate specialists and coordinate home health services as needed Document assessments and plan of care in accordance with policies and procedures Act as a clinical practice consultant and may serve as a supervising physician for physician assistants Communicate and collaborate effectively with other providers to ensure continuity of care Collaborate and advocate for patients Maintain knowledge of current clinical methods Abide by all Medical Center policies and procedures Benefits
