Overview
Somite.ai is a venture-backed company aiming to become the OpenAI of stem cell biology, developing AI foundation models for human stem cells to drive novel cell therapies at scale. We take a full-stack approach - generating data at 1,000x lower cost, training large-scale models with unmatched predictive power, and using these models to discover, refine, and optimize high-impact applications in cell therapy. Our founding team includes repeat AI entrepreneur Dr. Micha Breakstone (Chorus.ai, acquired for $575M), the Head of the Fundamental AI Group at MIT (pioneered the foundational research on scaling laws), and three Harvard Medical School professors and National Academy of Sciences/Medicine members, including the Chair of the Genetics Department at HMS. Based in Boston and launching operations in January 2024, Somite has raised close to $60M to date (Forbes). Somite’s Core Values: We show up – fully accountable, all-in, doing whatever it takes We act with urgency – swift, decisive, proactive We support one another – collaborative, helpful, empathetic Location

The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, and documentation within an electronic laboratory notebook. This is a hands-on role requiring expertise in mammalian cell culture and analytical methods relevant to cell therapy. This role requires the ability to be onsite in the lab Monday through Friday and may include occasional weekend work. Responsibilities
Execute experimental studies to optimize specificity, sensitivity, precision, accuracy, and/or linearity of analytical methods Analyze and interpret experimental data, contributing to the development of robust and reliable assays Troubleshoot assay development and instrument operation issues as they arise Document assay development activities in detailed protocols and reports in an electronic lab notebook (Benchling) Compose method procedures and train team members on new assays Run assays on samples generated during platform development studies Present experimental results and updates to internal teams Assist with general laboratory tasks as needed to ensure efficient operations Able to work occasional weekends Exhibit Somite’s Core Values Qualifications
B.S. in Biology or a related scientific discipline with at least 5 years of experience in drug development laboratory setting(s) Familiarity with mammalian cell culture techniques, including experience with various cell types (e.g., iPSCs and differentiated phenotypes thereof) Experience building analytical methods such as flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, qPCR, and cell-based potency assays Experience with electronic laboratory notebook (experience with Benchling is ideal) Must be an adaptable team player prepared to work in, and embrace, a team-based culture Preferred Qualifications
Experience with assay development principles and considerations for method qualification Experience working in an early-stage company or a startup environment Benefits
