Resident Engagement Director

Promotes, creates, develops, and maintains an environment that supports a culture of engagement based on Brookdale’s Engagement Philosophy. Creates and manages the community’s resident programs department, ensuring it uses a person-centered approach starting with positive perceptions of aging while building relationships and connections. Hires, trains, and supervises at least 2 full-time associates in accordance with Company policies. Recruits and hires high quality and engaged associates and ensures they are appropriately trained and developed to meet residents’ needs. Makes decisions related to associate development, discipline, and termination, in partnership with the Executive Director. Develops and manages an innovative, continuous culture of engagement reflective of adults by leveraging engagement’s fundamental concepts and points of difference. Cultivates person-centered engagement that is meaningful to the individual by working with resident engagement associates to learn and understand each resident’s unique interests and desires. Ensures programming incorporates spontaneous elements daily, when appropriate, and looks for opportunities to bridge social connections and create friendships among residents. Encourages and promotes purposeful opportunities for residents, both internally and externally. Networks with outside community resources to enrich opportunities. May be required to drive a community vehicle to provide residents with meaningful opportunities outside of the community. Ensures resident experience and welcome protocols are implemented properly. Provides subject matter expertise to the leadership team regarding engagement and quality of life for residents and associates. Promotes a culture of interdepartmental cooperation to lead to intentional prospect-resident connections. Supports community operations by ensuring associates provide resident engagement opportunities to achieve high resident experience and satisfaction. Collaborates and oversees the Resident Engagement team’s plans and execution of special events (holiday, family, Friends for Life, educational, and other marketing events). Oversees the development of the monthly programming calendar and ensures it reflects residents’ interests and company initiatives. Ensures the department complies with the Brookdale Excellence Standards Tool (BEST) and with applicable state, federal, and other regulations related to resident programming and engagement. Maintains department budget and manages vendor contracts; may oversee volunteer program and fitness center where applicable. Represent the department in community meetings and participate in regional calls and trainings as required; ensure Resident Engagement associates participate when necessary. Oversees social media content to align with Brookdale’s culture, brand, and guidelines. Facilitates planning and collaboration between service lines to optimize a culture of engagement across the campus where applicable. Qualifications

Education and Experience

A minimum of 3 years of direct experience with adults, coordinating, planning, and executing programs is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, health care, education, or related field is preferred. Leadership experience is required. Certification as an Activity Director strongly preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire. Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

Must have a valid driver’s license and may be required to obtain a commercial driver’s license based on the needs of the community. Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Uses analytical skills and an understanding of resident programming to make decisions within the department. Demonstrates leadership to direct, coordinate, and evaluate resident engagement and programming in line with company policies and laws. Knowledge and Skills

Has advanced knowledge of resident programming and the ability to oversee assignments. Strong communication, teaching, and presentation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word and comfortable with social media. Maintains a positive, professional demeanor with residents, families, and coworkers.
