Promote, create, develop, and maintain an environment that supports a culture of engagement based on Brookdale’s Engagement Philosophy. Lead the community’s resident programs department with a person-centered approach, starting with positive perceptions of aging, while building relationships and connections. Hire, train, and supervise at least 2 full-time associates; recruit and develop high-quality, engaged staff; make decisions related to development, discipline, and termination in partnership with the Executive Director. Develop and manage an innovative, continuous culture of engagement that reflects adults’ needs and preferences. Collaborate with resident engagement associates to learn each resident’s interests and desires; incorporate daily spontaneity and bridge social connections to foster friendships among residents. Promote purposeful opportunities for residents locally and externally; network with outside resources to expand opportunities; may drive a community vehicle as needed. Ensure resident experience and welcome protocols are implemented properly. Provide subject matter expertise to the leadership team on engagement and quality of life; promote interdepartmental cooperation to foster prospect-resident connections. Support community operations by ensuring associates provide engagement opportunities to maximize resident experience and satisfaction. Collaborate on plans and execution of special events (e.g., holidays, family events, Friends for Life, educational, marketing events). Develop and approve the monthly programming calendar based on residents’ interests; schedule Company initiatives and specialty programs accordingly. Ensure department compliance with BEST standards and relevant regulations; manage monthly budget and vendor contracts. Manage volunteer programs and the fitness center where applicable. Represent the department in community meetings; participate in regional calls and trainings as required; ensure Resident Engagement associates participate when necessary. Oversee social media content to align with Brookdale’s culture, brand, and standards. Coordinate planning and partnerships between service lines to promote a campus-wide culture of engagement. Qualifications
Education and Experience
Minimum of 3 years of direct experience with adults, coordinating, planning, and executing programs. Bachelor’s Degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, health care, education, or related field preferred. Leadership experience required. Certification as an Activity Director strongly preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire. Certifications, Licenses, and Other Requirements
Must have a valid driver’s license; may be required to obtain a commercial driver’s license depending on community needs. Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Standing, walking, sitting; use of hands; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision; interaction with co-workers, residents, or vendors. Occasional weekend, evening, or night work as needed for shift coverage; on-call as needed. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, latex, blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, and hazards; subject to injury from equipment. Requires driving residents (Tier 1). Management/Decision Making
Uses analytic skills and engagement expertise to make department-level decisions; leads overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of resident engagement and programming; exercises judgment to solve moderately complex problems; carries out supervisory responsibilities per company policies and laws. Knowledge and Skills
