Overview
The Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director is a credentialed therapeutic and disease area expert who engages in scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators. The role provides balanced, factual scientific information about non-product areas of interest and responds to scientific questions related to our Company's products and data. RMSDs develop peer-level relationships with scientific leaders and investigators and support data generation activities for sponsored trials and Investigator Study Programs as prioritized by R&D leadership. The position reports to the Regional RMSD Team Leader – US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, Research and Development (R&D). Primary Activities
Identify, establish and manage collaborative professional relationships with national, regional and clinical practice scientific leaders and investigators to address scientific needs and ensure access to medical and scientific information on areas of therapeutic interest and our data or products Conduct peer-level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence to ensure SLs have a Research and Development/Medical Affairs contact within the company Engage in proactive non-product discussions on scientific issues (disease states, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, population health) to inform R&D/GMA and HH strategy or research programs Facilitate appropriate scientific exchange of information with SLs, integrating knowledge with actionable insights to inform R&D and HH strategies Communicate external stakeholder opinions and feedback on new data and clinical trends to Medical Affairs HQ to inform internal R&D strategies Represent R&D at scientific meetings and contribute to debriefs, insight discussions and post-congress reports Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with global Virology strategy Support data generation activities when requested by R&D leadership, including acting as the primary liaison to investigators for investigator-initiated research Identify potential investigators for participation in phase II–IV clinical development programs and provide scientific support for sponsored trials as needed Provide in-depth scientific support to Health Systems teams within USMA Maintain in-depth knowledge of the assigned disease and therapeutic area through educational efforts and adherence to company policies and applicable laws and ethical standards Education Minimum Requirement
An advanced degree (MD, PhD, DNP or PharmD) relevant to Virology and requirements of the position Experience – Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 3 years in the biotech/pharmaceutical or healthcare environment A minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or research experience in Virology/HIV or related areas with demonstrated scientific excellence Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and presentation skills Ability to travel up to 50% of the time and reside in the coverage region Skills Required
Deep therapeutic competency and awareness of Virology trends Ability to network with external customers including scientific leaders and investigators Ability to synthesize complex data, plan analyses, and interpret results Knowledge of national/society treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, and applicable ethical guidelines Ability to organize and adapt in a changing environment Preferred Capabilities
Recognition for scientific excellence in Virology with sustained contributions Experience in both clinical Virology and independent research/publications in Virology; late-stage clinical research experience desirable 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Virology Prior experience within the coverage region with established Virology stakeholders Demonstrated leadership and ability to handle challenges Strong Microsoft Office skills Hybrid/remote work with ability to reside in the coverage region Other information US and Puerto Rico residents only: accommodation during the hiring process is available upon request.
