Overview
The Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director is a credentialed professional (MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) who provides scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders. The RMSD offers balanced, factual information about non-product areas of interest and responds to scientific questions about our data and products. They develop peer-level relationships with scientific leaders and investigators, and support data generation activities for sponsored trials and Investigator Study Programs, as prioritized by R&D. The Virology RMSD reports to the Regional RMSD Team Leader – US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, Research and Development (R&D). Primary Activities
Identify, establish and manage collaborative relationships with national, regional and clinical practice scientific leaders (SLs) and investigators to address scientific needs and provide access to medical and scientific information on areas of therapeutic interest and our data or products.
Conduct peer-level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence to ensure SLs have a Research and Development (R&D)/Medical Affairs contact within the Company.
Engage in proactive non-product discussions regarding scientific issues (e.g., disease states, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, population health) to enhance scientific discussions or guide R&D/HH strategy or research programs.
Facilitate appropriate scientific exchange of information with SLs, integrating knowledge with actionable insights to inform R&D and HH strategies.
Communicate external stakeholder opinions and feedback on new data, clinical trends and the evolving vaccine landscape to Medical Affairs HQ teams to inform internal R&D strategies.
Represent R&D at scientific meetings and congresses and contribute to debriefs, insights discussions and post-congress reports.
Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with global Virology strategy.
Support data generation activities as requested by R&D leadership, including the Investigator Study Program (MISP), by acting as the primary liaison to investigators developing and performing investigator-initiated research.
Identify potential investigators for participation in phase II/III clinical development programs and provide scientific support for sponsored trials as needed.
Provide in-depth scientific support to Health Systems teams within USMA.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of the assigned disease and therapeutic area through educational efforts, including attendance at conferences, workshops and review of key journals; fully comply with company policies and applicable laws and ethical standards.
Education Minimum Requirement
An advanced degree (MD, PhD, DNP or PharmD) relevant to Virology and the position requirements.
Experience – Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 3 years in the biotech/pharmaceutical or healthcare environment.
A minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or research experience (beyond the terminal degree) in Virology/HIV or related areas, with demonstrated scientific excellence.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and presentation skills.
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time and reside in the coverage region.
Skills Required
Deep therapeutic competency in Virology; awareness of trends and new information.
Ability to network and partner with external stakeholders including scientific leaders, investigators, clinical leaders and academic institutions within permitted boundaries.
Ability to consolidate and understand complex data sets, plan/analyze, summarize and interpret results.
Knowledge of national and society treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, and ethical guidelines (OIG, HIPAA).
Ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively in a changing environment.
Preferred Capabilities
Recognition for scientific excellence in Virology through clinical, academic or translational research.
Experience in both clinical Virology and independent research/publication in Virology; desirable in late-stage clinical research or investigator-initiated trials.
5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Virology (MSL or similar).
Prior experience within the coverage region and established relationships with Virology stakeholders.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to address challenges within scope of authority.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Headquarters in Upper Gwynedd, PA; position is remote with residency in the coverage region.

The salary range for this role is $187,000.00 - $294,400.00. The salary is determined by factors including education, qualifications, experience, skills, geography, and business needs.
