Overview

The Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director is a credentialed therapeutic and disease area expert (MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) who engages in scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators. Virology RMSDs provide balanced, factual scientific information about non-product areas of interest and respond to scientific questions from Scientific Leaders. They develop peer-level relationships with external scientific leaders, support data generation activities for sponsored trials and investigator-initiated programs, and report to the Regional RMSD Team Leader within US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, R&D. Primary Activities / Responsibilities

Identify, establish and manage collaborative relationships with national, regional and clinical practice scientific leaders and investigators to address scientific needs and provide access to medical and scientific information on therapeutic areas, data and products. Conduct peer-level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence to ensure SLs have an R&D/Medical Affairs contact within the company. Engage in proactive non-product scientific discussions (disease states, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, population health) to enhance scientific discussions and inform R&D/Global Medical Affairs and Human Health strategy or research programs. Facilitate appropriate scientific exchange of information with SLs, integrating knowledge with actionable insights to inform R&D and HH strategies. Communicate external stakeholder opinions, insights and feedback on new data and clinical trends to Medical Affairs HQ to inform internal R&D strategies. Represent R&D at scientific meetings and congresses; contribute to debriefs, insight discussions and post-congress reports. Develop and execute territory plans aligned with global Virology strategy. Support data generation activities when requested by R&D leadership, acting as the primary liaison to investigators for investigator-initiated research (MISP). Identify potential investigators for phase II/III consideration and provide scientific support for sponsored trials as needed. Provide in-depth scientific support to US Medical Affairs Health Systems teams. Demonstrate and maintain in-depth knowledge of the assigned disease/therapeutic area through educational efforts, including conference attendance and literature review; fully comply with company policies, laws, regulations and ethical standards. Education Minimum Requirement

An advanced degree (MD, PhD, DNP or PharmD) relevant to Virology and position requirements. Experience - Minimum Requirements

A minimum of 3 years in the biotech/pharmaceutical or healthcare environment. A minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or research experience in Virology/HIV (or related area) with demonstrated scientific excellence in Virology or related field. Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and presentation skills. Ability to travel up to 50% overnight and reside in the coverage region. Skills Required

Deep therapeutic competency in Virology; current with trends and new information. Ability to network and partner with external customers, including scientific leaders, investigators and academic institutions, including treatment guideline members as permitted. Ability to consolidate and understand complex data sets, plan/analyze, summarize and interpret results. Knowledge of national guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, and ethical guidelines (OIG, HIPAA) relevant to the pharmaceutical industry. Strong organization and ability to adapt in a changing environment. Preferred Capabilities

Recognition for scientific excellence in Virology through clinical, academic, translational or basic science work. Experience in both clinical Virology and independent research/publications in Virology is highly desirable (late-stage clinical research, investigator or sponsor roles). 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Virology (MSL or related roles). Experience working within the coverage region with established Virology stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities within scope of authority. Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Remote-friendly, with headquarters in Upper Gwynedd, PA; candidate should reside within the coverage region.
