Overview
The Director of Entertainment is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic plan for the SGC entertainment program. This role identifies and implements entertainment to drive guests and revenue for each property, aligned with the Seneca brand and the unique positioning of each property. From headline entertainment to vibrant bar concepts to entertainment productions of all sizes, as well as the creation and oversight of all SGC Entertainment Events, this position focuses on increasing visitation among existing customers and broadening the demographics of the customer base to generate incremental revenue. All duties are performed in accordance with the Seneca Gaming Corporation’s policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Identify and book entertainment that complements the existing customer base and drives new markets to the property, including various ethnic groups, appropriate age demographics, Canadian (Toronto) markets, ethnic markets, and other underrepresented demographics.
Be a cutting-edge creative resource, introducing new concepts to expand or improve overall entertainment and special event presentation. Review proposals by 3- and 4-wall promoters with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Upon approval, contract and follow up with entertainers to ensure a first-class show in the designated entertainment venue.
Leverage existing relationships with entertainment agents, management, and artists to maintain and grow presence within the entertainment industry; collaborate with entertainment relations to further the Seneca Gaming entertainment image.
Design and implement all sound, lighting, rigging, and staging for in-house event productions.
Monitor the profitability of each sector of the department.
Increase net revenues by expanding trips by high-value gamers, retail cash business, ticketing revenue, and incremental non-gaming revenue such as food and beverage and hotel cash revenue.
Negotiate entertainment contracts directly or through subordinates, including issuance and implementation of all entertainment for SGC venues and off-property entertainment sponsored by SGC.
Lead the production process for all technical needs with show producers, performers, promoters, and casino entertainment management.
Prepare budgets and ensure financial accountability for all shows and special event productions, as well as equipment acquisition and maintenance. Conduct post-event analysis and report on profitability and plans to repeat or adjust events in the future.
Review PROFORMA and PERFORMA processes for greater accuracy in budgeting event profitability. Work with FP&A, Marketing, and property GMs.
Work independently without direct supervision.
Oversee the preparation and sign-off on all ticketed entertainment coordinated through Ticketmaster (or current contracted ticketing agency).
Oversee timely distribution of checks and approved invoice payments for all entertainers according to SGC’s distribution policy.
Maintain appropriate relations with all entertainers contracted by the Casino to ensure superior performance, attitude, and demeanor during their stay.
Oversee the advancement of all shows through subordinates at appropriate SGC entertainment venues, working with entertainers’ tour managers, production managers, music agencies, record labels, management, and others involved in the entourage and staff.
Effectively lead all positions within the Entertainment Department, managing productivity and adherence to assignments for all staff.
Provide the highest level of customer service to all guests (including entertainment/performance groups) at all times.
Be present for all entertainment events and promote positive public relations.
Standard Requirements
Proven entertainment production, presentation, and theming experience.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, and up to 60 hours per week as needed during periods of multiple headline entertainment acts.
Effective communication with booking agents across different time zones.
Experience identifying and delivering profitable events, music acts, DJs, and production shows that attract different age groups.
Hands-on technical knowledge of music and entertainment equipment including rigging, sound, lighting, and staging; capable of making recommendations.
Hands-on knowledge of digital signage systems such as Scala, Four Winds, Symon, etc.
Proven track record of strategic planning for significant shows and attractions for all customer segments.
Strong experience in collegiate marketing, sponsorship marketing, and developing unique entertainment and events that generate incremental revenue.
Develops, mentors, and trains Seneca Nation members for future management positions within the company.
Oversees departmental administrative matters and ensures HR is consulted as appropriate. Regularly meets with staff and the entire department at least three times per year.
Ensures effective recruitment, hiring, training, recognition, evaluation, coaching and discipline, terminations, and other personnel-related issues.
Ensures the department adheres to all company policies and internal controls, including Compact, HR, TERO compliance guidelines, and Purchasing.
Prepares the annual budget and monitors attainment of goals. Manages labor and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage while minimizing overtime.
Liaises with other property/department/company management to ensure consistency and smooth information flow, policies, and procedures.
Maintains a strong network of industry contacts to facilitate information gathering.
Runs the department and designs policies and training that result in exceptional customer service to all patrons.
Maintains a professional work environment with supervisors, managers, and staff; fosters a collaborative team environment and demonstrates strong leadership.
Keeps abreast of industry trends, new technology, and practices related to responsibilities.
Must complete all required SGC Training programs within nine months from start date.
Attends all necessary meetings to stay informed, including company and community meetings.
Oversees a 24/7 operation with hours up to 60+ per week, including on-call accessibility.

Education/Experience Qualifications/Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in booking entertainment and/or presenting events and negotiating contracts, including large-scale arenas.
Minimum seven (7) years’ experience leading a team.
At least seven (7) years managing and directing casino entertainment productions or as a consultant to casino hotels (or similar) entertainment operations.
Experience developing and promoting strategic plans targeting local and international markets, gaming and non-gaming clientele.
Experience with branding, programming venues, production, contract negotiations, auditions, and directing casino special events; programming digital video and content, and talent scouting.
Experience working with agents/consultants to develop shows and events for Seneca Gaming.
Proven experience with successful shows/concerts for the gaming industry; lead entertainment processes across SGC locations.
Established senior-level contacts within corporate, advertising, and media/publishing fields.
Proven ability to drive strategic decisions and innovation in a bottom-line culture.
Creative, technically and financially astute, with strong sales strategy and experience executing strategic business plans.
Demonstrated self-direction, motivation, and customer/market focus.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record acceptable to the liability insurer.
