The RN must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary psychosocial and nursing principles, while orchestrating the interdisciplinary plan of care. RN responsibilities also include building a patient care plan, delegating as appropriate to the skill level, knowledge, scope of practice of the individual, collaborating with physicians and other staff on patient care and treatment, maintains accurate records and patient documentation, and assists with patient admission, transfers and discharges. The RN must always maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements at all times.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESDirect Patient Care· Provides pre-surgery/procedure/phase I/phase II/post-operative direct care to assigned patients. PACU phase 1 recovery.· Performs Timeout prior to any procedures performed in Same Day Surgery. · Exhibits proper technique for insertion, maintenance, and removal of IV catheters and saline locks.· Checks dressings and operative site and reports abnormalities to the surgeon.· Assures that patients meet all discharge criteria when discharge is planned from Prep/Recovery.· Performs patient post procedure calls and documents and reports to the Physician any abnormalities communicated by the patent/family during the follow up call.· Provides direct care to assigned patients.· Performs admissions, discharges and transfers using current and consistent handover process by assisting others with patient’s activities and care.· Reviews and appropriately implements physician’s orders for all assigned patients.· Safely and properly administers medications and treatments.· Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff to changes in the patient’s status.· Performs or assists others in performing proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures and infection control measures.· Maintains patient’s privacy and confidentiality at all times. · Cares for patients in the optimum clinical environment.· Adheres to all nursing and hospital wide policies and procedures. · Participates in all hospital and nursing communication.· Maintains effective interdisciplinary communication. · Consults with physicians and other members of the care team.· Effectively listens to and resolves concerns/complaints, escalates up the chain of command as needed.· Monitors all risk management processes.· Takes call for PACU per policy and procedure.· Documents all charting requirements and patient specific documentation appropriate.· Utilizes all practical opportunities to educate the patient and their families.· Involves patient’s families and significant others as an essential piece of patient education and discharge needs.
