Overview
Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI) is a satellite facility of the University of Southern California, located in San Diego. The Department of Animal Resources is seeking a reliable, self-motivated Animal Laboratory Technician I to provide daily animal care and support for biomedical research and teaching activities. Responsibilities And Duties
Ensure animals receive care in accordance with state and federal regulations to promote physical and psychological well-being and minimize discomfort. Maintain cleanliness and organization of cages, equipment, surgical and storage facilities; manage storeroom supplies and perform routine cleaning of animal lodging facilities; maintain computerized animal identification records; prepare medical histories for animals. Prepare and distribute food and water; provide special diet plans; exercise larger animals confined to small cages; treat animals for external and internal parasites; isolate sick animals and notify the veterinarian; dispose of dead animals. Collect and process diagnostic samples; administer drugs and other treatments; assist veterinarians and principal investigators with handling animals during procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Qualifications
Required Education: High school or equivalent Required Experience: 1 year; combined education/experience may substitute for minimum experience Preferred Education: Associate Degree Preferred Experience: 2 years Preferred Field of Expertise: Assistant ALT Certification with experience in a veterinary hospital kennel or animal research laboratory Skills: Animal Handling Employment Details
