This position is located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in the Department of Surgery, Preoperative Nursing, Main Operating Room, Bethesda, MD. Verify patient charts, surgical consent, and ID bands for accuracy. Assist in patient positioning and surgical preparation. Perform sponge, needle, and sharps counts during surgeries. Obtain sterile supplies and prepare surgical instruments and equipment. Ensure availability of necessary surgical tools and supplies. Pass instruments to surgeons, anticipating their needs. Use the surgical scheduling system (S3) for scheduling and reporting. Prepare patients and OR for surgery, arranging equipment and supplies per surgeon and nurse preferences. Assemble and organize surgical supplies and instruments. Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other staff before, during, and after procedures. Provide highly specialized surgical support, including for complex procedures. Post-operation, apply dressings and prepare OR for next case. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Must be a US Citizen. Qualifications include: One year of specialized experience assisting in surgeries and maintaining surgical equipment (GS-07 level experience). OR one and a half years of graduate education in Biomedical Technology, Surgical Technology, or Cardiovascular Technology. Or a combination of education and experience that meets 100% of the requirements. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. More info:
