As a Senior Radiation Therapist, you will administer radiation therapy treatments, perform simulation procedures, assist in the planning of radiation therapy treatments, and document all aspects of patient treatment in medical records. You will support the chief therapist and technical director in implementing new policies and procedures and in attaining departmental and organizational goals. You will assist the Chief Therapist in the daily operation of the Radiation Therapy Center and interact with the physician and all office staff to ensure patients are treated promptly. Primary Duties

Records all aspects of simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Proficient with all aspects of EMR (Electronic Medical Record). Consistently utilizes the Quality Assurance (QA) Checklist. Runs the Contingency Report. Responsible for daily operations in the Chief Therapist’s absence. Keeps treatment/CT simulator rooms and console areas organized and stocked. Notifies chief therapist of technical supplies needed. Reports and documents all treatment unit/simulator malfunctions. Observes all rules/regulations concerning radiation safety. Demonstrates the ability to access, update, send and review performance goals/evaluations.

Actively participates in QA procedures by ensuring all aspects of weekly chart review are completed. Performs dose verification and documents. Verifies and records SSD’s weekly. Acquires all necessary patient imaging. Assists chief therapist in ensuring charts are accurate and complete. Schedules simulation and treatment procedures. Provides patients with initial appointment and treatment calendar. Resolves treatment schedule conflicts by the end of the day. Evaluates missed appointments with patients/family and documents in the EMR.

Operates the CT (Computed Tomography) simulator and necessary equipment. Performs morning QA procedures, emergency shutdown procedures, and follows the operation manual for the CT Scanner. Performs HDR, Mold Room duties, urethrograms, oral procedures, IV contrast, and Time-Out procedure. Provides patient education on what to expect during the procedure. Fabricates immobilization devices. Verifies all consent forms are signed. Uses the EMR Policy/Procedure manual. Completes all appropriate documentation, photographs, associations, QCL, and billing.

Interacts professionally with all departments, patients, and family members. Evaluates the patient’s condition and informs the physician if their attention is required. Documents any symptoms or problems in the patient chart. Demonstrates concern for patient comfort. Treats patients and family members with courtesy and respect. Performs document scanning. Relays staff therapists’ concerns to the Chief Therapist and supports decisions made by the team. Assists and supports the Chief Therapist, Technical Director, and physicist in implementing new processes, procedures, and treatment modalities.

Assists in training new staff, including students. Completes all necessary student/visitor forms and forwards them to the Chief Therapist. Completes all student clinical evaluations. Operates the linear accelerator(s). Administers radiation therapy treatments safely and competently. Provides ongoing patient education by reinforcing the physician’s advice regarding skin care, diet, and treatment side effects. Provides patients with education on what to expect during treatment. Performs hand calculations/RadCalc dose verifications. Delivers radiation treatments.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

3 years of progressive experience in the clinical setting.

Must hold a Maryland Board of Physicians License "O" as a Radiation Therapist, or "M" as a Radiation Therapist and Radiographer.

Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT Certification).

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification with AED.
