Section Chief of Vascular Surgery and Director of Aortic Center, Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Roanoke, VA The Department of Surgery at Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (CC-VTCSOM) in Roanoke, Virginia is recruiting a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon to lead the Section of Vascular Surgery. The Chief will lead the Section and the Director of the Aortic Center, directing a growing team of six surgeons and seven advanced practice providers in a clinic-based academic program with opportunities in teaching, research, and clinical surgery. The candidate should have complex endovascular and open surgical skills, a strong record in managing advanced aortic pathology, and a collaborative approach to patient care. Teaching/Research

Education and research activities and opportunities are available through relationships with VTCSOM, FBRI at VTC, Virginia Tech, and Radford University. Faculty are involved in the education of medical students, residents from CC-VTCSOM training programs, allied health science students, and Virginia Tech undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty currently provides clinical training for general surgery residents, plastic surgery residents, integrated cardiothoracic surgery residents (University of Virginia), and surgical critical care fellows. The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) is a unique partnership between Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic and is a fully LCME-accredited, four-year allopathic medical school. The school emphasizes a curriculum in four domains: basic science, clinical science, research, and interprofessionalism. The school’s programs feature a case-based learning approach, strong USMLE performance, and access to Carilion Clinic’s clinical facilities with a large, multi-specialty faculty. Students complete a publishable research project and receive a graduate certificate in research from Virginia Tech in addition to earning an M.D. Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC

FBRI at VTC is Virginia Tech’s biomedical research institute dedicated to interdisciplinary research across health and disease, combining biology, behavior, computation, and engineering. Located in Roanoke, the institute has expanded to >260,000 square feet of facilities and houses more than 40 faculty-led research teams, with active extramural funding and high-impact publications. The institute has a portfolio of grants and contracts including more than $240 million in active extramural funding, with an annual active portfolio of about $51 million. It has produced 1,000+ publications and more than 300,000 citations, and has supported inventions, patents, and the creation of biotechnology companies. The Chief will direct the clinical, educational, and research activities for the Section. This position will lead a dynamic group practice providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care with state-of-the-art technology and treatment options. The Vascular Surgery group delivers comprehensive vascular, aortic, and endovascular surgery, collaborating with referring physicians to provide exceptional, personalized care. The Aortic Center’s vascular surgeons work closely with Carilion’s cardiothoracic surgery teams to offer advanced aortic solutions. Qualifications
