Overview
The Gastroenterologist will serve the GI Service line which has programmatic responsibilities for the delivery of Gastrointestinal care of patients at the Atlanta VAMC. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Gastroenterology service for all clinical, administrative, and quality performance matters. The incumbent will perform endoscopic procedures daily and also see patients in an outpatient clinic setting. Responsibilities
Maintain a clinical caseload including individual and/or group treatment at the Atlanta VAMC. Perform general gastroenterology related procedures. Provide clinical consultation to Atlanta VAMC clinical staff both within and outside of GI; adapt responsibilities to incumbent\'s areas of expertise and service line needs. Allocate time to complete administrative responsibilities associated with patient care. Provide leadership, guidance, teaching, and consultation on staff education and development to Atlanta VAMC GI clinical staff, including Medicine residents and fellows as well as other clinical trainees and staff. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (subject to change based on agency needs). Qualifications
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Board certification requirements: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status; approved residencies include ACGME-accredited programs, AOA-accredited programs, or other residencies deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee (with five years of verified practice in the U.S. if non-US). Residents in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) with restrictions (fully licensed, intermittent/fee-basis, not independent practitioners). Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
