The Nemours Nursing Team is seeking a Neurology Specialty Nurse! Position is full-time, 40 hours per week.
The Neurology Specialty Nurse is responsible for an area of specialized nursing practice and will partner with providers and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care. Responsibilities include phone triage, scheduling questions, insurance authorization, letters, and communication with families through Nemours portal messages. The nurse will also participate in patient and family education, in clinic or via phone, regarding common neurology diagnoses and medications. The role involves utilizing the nursing process to provide and evaluate nursing care. Candidates should have excellent time management skills, be proactive, work well in a team, and have a desire to engage in neurology patient care. Education regarding devices such as Vagal nerve stimulators and glucometers is also part of the role.
Responsibilities:
Perform ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress; revise interdisciplinary care plans as needed.
Identify patient/family needs for resources; initiate appropriate teaching and referrals.
Respond to patient phone calls; explain treatment regimens after discussion with the physician or provider.
Share clinical knowledge with the healthcare team; collaborate with Nursing Education for subspecialty knowledge sharing.
Act as a liaison between families and the healthcare team.
Apply specialized knowledge and technical skills in neurology nursing practice, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
Contribute to the development of standards of care for neurology patients.
Provide proficient care across all age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
Recognize personal learning needs; pursue professional development and set growth goals.
Participate in quality and process improvement programs; identify opportunities, make recommendations, and implement actions aligned with Nemours Foundation goals.
Qualifications:
BSN required
Active Delaware (or compact state) RN licensure required
American Heart Association BLS certification required
Minimum one year of nursing experience required; 3+ years preferred
Pediatric nursing experience required
Prior neurology nursing experience preferred
