Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous standard are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board certified in anesthesiology. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical, including lifting, pushing, reaching, and vision requirements. Duties

Provide anesthesia care to veterans in accordance with hospital policy and community standards. Perform pre-operative and pre-procedural risk assessments. Administer anesthetic agents and perform procedures such as IV placement, arterial and central venous catheter placement, and monitoring. Participate in pre-operative assessment clinics and supervise CRNAs. Provide care in various locations including OR, PACU, ICU, Pain Clinic, and outpatient suites. Participate in on-call schedules and maintain certifications. Ensure informed consent, perform consultations, and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams. Participate in training and education activities. Maintain skills in electronic medical records.
