Overview Sylva Animal Hospital, a CareVet partner, is looking for an experienced doctor to lead our practice in Sylva, NC! Our Medical Directors dedicate over 90% of their time to practicing medicine, allowing them to stay fully engaged in patient care while leading the team.

About The Position Are you a passionate veterinarian looking to make a difference in the lives of small animals? Sylva Animal Hospital, founded in 1988 and beautifully rebuilt in 2015, is seeking a dedicated Medical Director to lead our warm and welcoming team.

Our modern facility spans 3,000 square feet and features three exam rooms, as well as separate areas for dogs and cats, ensuring a comfortable experience for all our patients. With two strong seasoned veterinarians on staff, our team fosters a culture of learning and camaraderie, ensuring that everyone feels valued and empowered. We provide a strong focus on surgery, making this an ideal position for candidates with a keen interest in surgical procedures. Responsibilities

Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems

Treat and dress wounds

Perform surgery on animals

Test for and vaccinate against diseases

Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines

Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments

Prescribe medication

Work closely in collaboration with team members to provide high quality care

Qualifications

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required

Licensure in the state where the candidate will be working

Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners

Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks

Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal

Strong fondness and understanding of animals

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of animal behavior

Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research and surgery of animals
