The Center provides targeted programs and services to the LGBTQ community in San Diego. Our mission is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the San Diego region. We strive to be a vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center that values equity, social justice, and trauma-informed care. The Center employs over 100 staff across 11 facilities. POSITION SUMMARY
The Trans & Nonbinary Services Manager develops accessible and equitable programming for the transgender, nonbinary, agender, demi-gender, gender-fluid, two-spirit, genderqueer, intersex, gender nonconforming, and questioning community. Responsibilities include managing the program’s activities, guiding staff to ensure services meet client needs and contract expectations, and collaborating across departments to advance transgender and nonbinary communities. The manager champions a trauma-informed, goal-oriented, collaborative approach to service delivery. Lived and professional experience navigating various institutions and government agencies is required. This position reports to the Director of Community Programs and supervises the Project TRANS Case Manager & Peer Support Advocate. PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management
Design, oversee, and support the implementation of program groups, activities, and events; collaboratively develop program goals and ensure best outcomes. Plan and manage all Project TRANS events (e.g., Transgender Day of Remembrance, Day of Visibility, Day of Empowerment, flag raisings/lowerings). Work directly with Project TRANS Discussion Group volunteer facilitators, offering guidance, regular check-ins, troubleshooting, and support. Identify organizations and secure partnerships for collaborations and referrals to benefit program clients and the community; develop and maintain MOUs when appropriate. Partner with The Center’s Civic Engagement team on policies, bills, state legislation, and federal laws affecting transgender/nonbinary inclusion. Collaborate across programs to ensure trans-inclusive and accessible services and address gaps. Coordinate with Communications to update Project TRANS marketing and language; highlight awareness months and events. Work with Volunteer Manager to increase visibility of transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive Center initiatives. Partner with The Center’s Training Institute to create educational opportunities to reduce transphobia and homophobia as needed. Consult with community leaders to improve cultural sensitivity and practices. Co-facilitate the Project TRANS Advisory Committee to develop action plans based on community impact. Team Development and Oversight
Provide direct supervision and support to Project TRANS staff. Collaborate with People & Culture to initiate hiring, lead interviews, and participate in hiring decisions. Provide staff development, mentoring, onboarding, and related support. Develop work plans in collaboration with the program and equip direct reports with necessary skills and tools. Program Administration
Track and analyze program outcomes; guide activities to meet contract requirements. Track program expenditures and manage documentation to ensure HIPAA compliance. Complete and submit required program documentation in a timely manner. Collaborate with Quality Assurance to track data trends, identify gaps, and create monthly and annual reporting. Required Qualifications
Education and/or Experience :
2-4 years of management experience, including staff supervision. Minimum of 4 years in direct social services or social justice roles, preferably serving the transgender and nonbinary community. Experience navigating the San Diego trans and nonbinary community and LGBTQ+ organizations.
Other Skills :
Ability to work with diverse populations, manage multiple tasks, adapt to shifting priorities, and work in various team settings. Strong judgment and decision-making, willingness to work evenings/weekends, and local travel as needed. Lived experience in underserved communities (e.g., low-income, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, immigrant communities) preferred. Experience in event/program management and grant support.
Technical Skills :
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel). Experience with electronic health records is preferred.
Language Skills :
Fluency in English required.
Preferred Qualifications
Education and/or Experience :3 years of professional or lived experience in program development/management in the trans and nonbinary community. Language Skills :Bilingual in English/Spanish. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Compensation : The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hour. This is a Full-Time, Regular Non-Exempt position.
