Overview
The Vice President Mortgage Lending is responsible for protecting and growing credit union assets through the development, coordination, and execution of mortgage lending strategies, policies, and procedures. This role provides strategic leadership and overall direction to the Mortgage Department while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and delivering exceptional member service. The VP oversees all areas of real estate lending, including product development, portfolio risk management, underwriting, origination systems, and Secondary Market relationships, while fostering a collaborative, engaging, and high-performing team environment.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Growth
Champion Achieva’s Brand Frame by ensuring the team delivers on Find a Way, VIP, Make it Easy, Learn, Trust, Connect, and Guide.
Develop departmental strategies to drive growth, market share, member satisfaction, and profitability while managing risk and delinquency.
Prepare and monitor loan growth projections, budgets, and pro formas for new products and markets.
Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and economic conditions, adjusting strategies and pricing as needed.
Strengthen Secondary Market lending by scouting new investor relationships, offering competitive pricing, adhering to investor requirements, and ensuring timely delivery.
Operational Oversight
Establish efficient procedures for application processing, origination, and production goals, including origination volume, channel mix, turn times and automated approvals.
Oversee application processing, origination, and production goals, ensuring quality and timely decisions.
Provide subject-matter expertise and decisioning on complex applications, denials, exceptions, and escalations.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure department procedures align with Achieva policy and industry regulations.
Recommend and report on operational, compensation, capital expenditure, and travel/conference budgets.
Collaboration and Projects
Partner with the PMO by contributing subject matter expertise to corporate projects, presenting initiatives to the Project Steering Committee, and leading department-level projects with KPIs, task lists, and reporting.
Collaborate with other business units to align goals, referral programs, and strategies to capture full member relationships.
Build and maintain strong vendor, investor, and community relationships that strengthen Achieva’s market position and partnerships.
Lead, coach, and develop team members, fostering a positive and engaging work environment.
Deliver timely performance reviews and gather feedback through skip-level meetings.
Promote employee skill development and career growth through training, coaching and feedback.
Foster a positive and engaging work environment that supports Achieva’s values and strategic goals.
Compliance and Professional Development
Maintain compliance with all lending regulations, policies, and risk standards.
Participate in BSA, Privacy Act, and other required compliance training annually.
Stay current with mortgage lending practices, regulations, and technology through ongoing training, certifications, and industry involvement.
Ensure health and safety regulations of HR communications are followed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required.
Minimum of 8+ years of management experience with direct reports in mortgage lending.
8+ years of experience in Secondary Market pricing, underwriting, delivery, residential
5+ years of leadership experience with demonstrated ability to coach and develop employees.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Certifications
Valid Driver’s License
Certified DU and LP Underwriter.
NMLS – DE Certification required.
Skills and Attributes
