PART TIME Anesthesia position. The mission of VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) is to provide coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive quality primary care, mental health, surgical, intensive, and extended care to Veterans in a timely, accessible, and cost-effective manner. It is a fully integrated medical care facility with a dual campus and a combined VA mission. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical or osteopathic school. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who meet other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. They are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged. They can perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Board Certification as per VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This position is located in the Surgical Care Service Line at the Fort Wayne campus. Qualified applicants will be referred as resumes are received. VANIHCS offers a competitive salary, incentives, and excellent federal benefits. Opportunities are abundant for VA physicians across various functions, within the largest and most technologically advanced integrated health care system in the nation. The position requires a board-certified anesthesiologist capable of functioning independently in an operating room and on call. This is a traditional OR-based role for an energetic, well-trained clinician. Responsibilities include perioperative anesthetic care for all ASA physical statuses, preoperative assessments, intraoperative direct patient care, PACU care, and post-op ward care when needed. The position involves providing anesthetic care for general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, podiatry, and women's health (gynecology). Regional outpatient anesthesia skills are required (fellowship not necessary). The role also includes providing non-OR anesthesia in gastroenterology, pulmonology, cardiology, and mental health settings, as well as occasional acute pain management. Provide expert support for out-of-OR airway management emergencies at NIHCS and participate in ongoing improvements for program planning, policies, and standards. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, immediately available on-site. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required. This is not a virtual position.
