Ma Lab—Specialist

University of California, San Francisco Position Description: Specialist. This position requires a motivated, organized person that can communicate and coordinate well with others and has experience and interest in cutting-edge systems biology approaches. The applicant will need previous academic laboratory experience, but training on specific assays and equipment will be provided. The applicant will need to be comfortable with research with both experimental mice and human cells. Flow cytometry, cell signaling, and CRISPR screening assays will be integral to the research. The employee will split time approximately 10/90 between lab management and experimental assays. Experiments will be coordinated and in collaboration with the principal investigators and experienced lab members.
Responsibilities (illustrative)
Coordinate laboratory activities and assist with experimental assays as part of a collaborative research team.
Engage in cutting-edge systems biology approaches and support experiments involving mice and human cells.
Support flow cytometry, cell signaling analyses, and CRISPR screening assays.
Qualifications
Junior rank:
Baccalaureate degree (BA/BS) in immunology, molecular/cell biology, or related science, or at least four years of research experience.
Assistant rank:
Master’s degree or BA with 3+ years of research experience.
Associate rank:
Master’s degree (or equivalent) or 5–10 years of relevant experience.
Full rank:
Terminal degree (or equivalent) or 10+ years of relevant experience.
One or more years of rigorous, directly related work experience after degree in murine and human immunology, cell signaling, molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extractions, spectral flow cytometry, quantitative PCR, CRISPR editing). Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Preferred qualifications:
Bioinformatic analyses of single-cell RNA sequencing data.
