A highly regarded partner veterinary organization is seeking an
experienced and dedicated Regional Medical Director (RMD)
to oversee a group of 40–50 animal hospitals
in the
Northeast and
Southeast regions - Chicago, IL
. This
field-based leadership role
is ideal for a veterinary professional with strong clinical experience and a passion for leading teams, improving patient care, and driving operational success. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Mentorship Guide and support veterinary teams across the region. Mentor clinicians, assist with complex cases, and foster a collaborative, positive work culture.
Quality Assurance Monitor medical protocols, ensure adherence to best practices, and conduct quarterly hospital inspections to maintain high standards of care.
Operational Collaboration Partner with Practice Managers and Regional Directors to enhance business operations, address challenges, and identify areas for improvement.
Conflict Resolution Proactively address staff or client concerns and facilitate open, effective communication across all levels.
Data-Driven Strategy Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) including patient visits, outcomes, and financial metrics. Use insights to optimize hospital performance.
New Graduate Support Mentor early-career veterinarians and foster their growth through clinical development and real-world guidance.
Regulatory Compliance Ensure proper licensing, DEA log maintenance, and overall adherence to regulatory and operational protocols.
Hands-On Support Step in when needed to assist with complex cases or provide coverage during urgent staffing needs.
Qualifications
DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited program
Minimum
5 years of clinical experience , with leadership or multi-site experience preferred
Active license and DEA in good standing to practice in the state(s) in which candidate will be employed (or the ability to obtain a license in that state). Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
Ability for high level of travel and large amounts of time away from home (company paid). Compensation & Benefits
