This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing interpretive, patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiological diagnosis of patients under the direction of the department manager. The Radiographer I will either have additional responsibility for performing radiology procedures in Surgery or Pain Clinic.
Job Duties
Attends and participates in meetings/educational programs in Radiologic Technology Education
Communicates with School of Radiology faculty on student-related progress and issues.
Maintains current knowledge of School of Radiology policies, procedures, and student progress.
Understands requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy for the Mercy/St. Luke's school of Radiologic Technology.
Understands the School of Radiologic Technology's clinical competency system.
Adheres to all infection control policies.
Reviews radiographic images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality and repeats images of poor quality.
Reviews each patient's medical history and clinical diagnosis for appropriateness of exam.
Identifies each patient correctly verifying the exam to be performed is being done on the correct patient.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of RIS, PACS, LaborWorkx and other computer software as assigned
Explains and prepares the patient for all Radiographic General and Fluoroscopic procedures
Competent in performing diagnostic/fluoroscopy (fixed and portable) x-ray exams according to protocol and with the least amount of radiation needed to obtain a quality image
Ensure that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand-offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.

N/A Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Competent using diagnostic (fixed and portable) x-ray equipment, computed radiography and digital radiography/fluoroscopy, PACS & Epic. Professional Experience One year of experience as a radiographer preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certificate required Iowa Department of Public Health State Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography required Current certification in Basic Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
