Executive Director, Mid-Atlantic

Location: NYC (Hybrid). Generation Citizen offers tools for the rising generation to build civic skills and make America the inclusive, multi-racial democracy that we need. We are transforming how civics is taught by providing equity-rooted, real-world civic education, which helps students understand how governments function and how they can make a difference in the system. Through hands-on civic education, legislative advocacy, coalition building, and youth leadership development, we teach young people how to have a voice and become active citizens in their communities. About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Executive Director of Mid-Atlantic (MAR) to join our diverse and inclusive team. You will oversee the continued impact of the Mid-Atlantic region, currently active in New York State (with a strong footprint in NYC), an emerging market in Philadelphia, and plans to expand in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. You will serve as the face of Generation Citizen in the region, building and developing key relationships with community partners, school districts, elected officials, the philanthropic community, and the media. You will lead and empower a local team, serving as the spokesperson and face of Generation Citizen across the region. You will also guide the Local Advisory Board, steer program and policy strategy, and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve ambitious regional goals. The Mid-Atlantic Executive Director thrives in managing collaborative teams in rapidly changing environments. The right candidate is a self-starter and a collaborative learner who builds on local civics policy legislation and the rapid scaling of community-based civics throughout the region. The Executive Director manages a programmatic team and reports directly to the Chief Partnerships & Regions Officer. Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Local Advisory Board (40%): Build strong relationships with existing donors and expand a diversified funding strategy to meet annual fundraising goals and support sustainable growth; engage new individual, foundation, and corporate funding sources; partner with board chairs to engage the Local Advisory Board and Associate Board in supporting regional priorities; provide fiscal oversight and manage the site’s budget. Policy, Advocacy, & Thought Leadership (25%): Develop coalitions and partnerships to elevate community-based civics; engage in advocacy and policy work, including involvement in local/state task forces and commissions; articulate the impact of civics education through public, equity-focused messaging (op-eds, interviews, conferences, panels, and related communication). Team Organization & Leadership (20%): Develop regional team goals aligned with the organizational strategic plan; motivate and manage the team to achieve quarterly and annual goals; foster an equitable team culture rooted in inclusion and belonging; participate as a member of GC’s Leadership Team. Program Management & Partnership Development (15%): Oversee programmatic strategy for the MAR region in collaboration with the MAR Program Director and the Program & Impact Team; support school/district partnership goals and Fee For Service district contracts in coordination with the MAR Program Director, National Director of Expansion, and Chief Partnerships & Regions Officer. Qualifications & Skills

7+ years of non-profit fundraising experience for education, democracy, or youth service organizations, with a track record in cultivating major donors and meeting fundraising goals Experience supervising, developing, and coaching others, with strong leadership and management skills Demonstrated ability to build or participate in coalitions with clear policy objectives Strong knowledge of the philanthropic, education, and policy landscape in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey; established network with local philanthropists, elected officials, and educators Excellent written and oral communication skills; professional demeanor with diverse stakeholders and ability to give/receive constructive feedback Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong project management skills Empathetic listener, collaborative leader with ownership over outcomes Skilled in strengths-based storytelling, elevating youth voices Deep commitment to Generation Citizen’s mission and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in policy, advocacy, and fundraising Based within the region with the ability to travel to the New York area and other Mid-Atlantic locations for funder meetings and events Note:

This position works primarily remotely but requires travel up to 30% of the time for in-person team days, organizational retreats, events, partner meetings, board meetings, conferences, lobbying, and other activities. Some in-person opportunities include annual staff retreats, funder meetings, school visits, and Civics Day events (overnight travel may be required). How to Apply
