Abrazo Central Campus is a 206-bed acute care facility located in central Phoenix, part of the Abrazo Community Health Network. The Chief Nursing Officer provides strategic leadership as the senior executive responsible for all nursing and designated patient care functions within the hospital, with 24/7 accountability for nursing practice, staff competency, and resource management. The CNO represents nursing concerns on the governing board and medical staff leadership meetings.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with human resources and team members to select, on-board, orient, and coach direct reports.
Evaluate facility-level people pillar statistics and participate in related calls as necessary.
Develop nurse residency programs to ensure a pipeline for the facility.
Collaborate to enhance work-life balance and promote a safe work environment with zero tolerance for harassment, violence, and abuse.
Oversee facility-level competency, employee development, and education programs to meet diverse career needs.
Develop recruitment and retention strategies to ensure a qualified and stable workforce.
Participate in workforce planning to maintain adequate staffing levels.
Support design of competitive compensation and benefits programs.
Communication and Relationship Building
Communicate effectively with staff, colleagues, physicians, and external stakeholders.
Administer HR programs and procedures per established policies.
Build trust and collaborative relationships, manage conflicts constructively, and provide timely feedback.
Leadership Influence
Create and communicate a compelling shared vision and implement strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and priorities.
Monitor performance expectations and organizational outcomes across learning, process, customer, and financial perspectives.

Demonstrate change management and mentor aspiring nurse leaders; foster professional growth and ethical operations.
Represent nursing and patient care in governance, medical staff structures, and strategic planning.

Serve as a change agent when patient care workflows are redesigned and advocate evidenced-based practices.
Mentor others in using evidence and research to inform practice; ensure clinical perspectives are included in organizational decisions.
Support the regional director and Tenet CNO as needed.
Academic Relationships
Provide a learning environment for nursing students and collaborate with academic programs to align resources and evaluate graduates.
Collaborate with academia in nursing research and incorporate findings into practice.
Resource Management
Understand organizational revenue, expense, and capital planning; manage resources cost-effectively.
Design systems for resource management in nursing and optimize care processes to support financial performance.
Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Management
Contribute to performance improvement and patient safety programs; monitor quality metrics and participate in clinical close calls.
Define quality metrics, analyze root causes, and sustain improvements with evidence-based practices.
Support a non-punitive safety culture and design safe clinical systems and processes.
Information Management and Technology
Support EMR adoption and basic technology competency; leverage data for planning and decision support.
Participate in system change, evaluate information systems, and ensure data confidentiality and ethical use.
Service and Professional Role Model
Monitor service indicators and educate staff on service improvements.
Facilitate physician and employee satisfaction initiatives and develop action plans.
Model professional roles and lead by example with accountability and integrity.
Experience and Education At least five years of progressive management experience in a facility environment (Associate Chief Nursing Officer or Nursing Director of multiple, complex departments). Strong interpersonal, leadership, and labor relations skills. Requires an RN license in the practicing state and a master’s degree in nursing or related field. Active CENP or NEA certification preferred.
Compensation and Travel A competitive compensation program with base salary, performance bonus, comprehensive benefits, and relocation assistance. Travel approximately 25%.
