Dentist - Correctional
The Dentist is responsible for providing professional dental care for inmates/residents. The successful applicant should be able to perform all the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job requirements: Perform routine dental treatments including examinations, x-rays, fillings, extractions, cleanings, dentures, and root canals as warranted. Diagnose and develop dental treatment plans for inmates/residents. Develop, coordinate, and supervise the facility dental program, including advising and instructing inmates/residents on dental health and prevention. Recruit, schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate subordinate staff. Consult with other healthcare staff and coordinate specialized or emergency dental care as needed. Control and inventory medications, instruments, and supplies. Maintain a clean work area using sanitation and infection control methods. Prepare and maintain dental records, reports, and logs, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation. Monitor and audit dental files and services, including external providers. Assist in budgeting and financial responsibilities related to dental services. Evaluate operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of dental services. Supervise pharmacy use and ensure compliance with pharmacy laws. Monitor inmate/resident behavior and ensure safety protocols. Maintain equipment and supplies, order replacements, and ensure security of supplies. Participate in safety practices and emergency response activities. Communicate effectively with staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public. Handle legal and administrative documentation, including lawsuits and court proceedings. Coordinate inmate/resident movement for dental treatment. Conduct investigations and gather evidence as needed. Perform searches and security checks to prevent contraband. Respond to emergencies and disasters, providing medical aid and evacuation as necessary. Apply management techniques to solve administrative problems. Perform mathematical calculations and interpret technical instructions. Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Remain alert and react quickly in high-stress situations. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited dental school and licensure as a dentist in the state of employment. At least one year of experience preferred. BLS certification. Good oral and written communication skills. Valid driver's license preferred unless required by contract or law. Knowledge of correctional methods, rules, and standards. Minimum age: 18 years.
