Summary

The Hampton VA Medical Center is a 1-C teaching facility serving Eastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. The main campus is in Hampton, Virginia, with four community-based outpatient clinics in Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Hampton VAMC provides comprehensive healthcare, including primary care, acute inpatient, acute psychiatric, chronic spinal cord injury, a 169-bed domiciliary, and long-term Community Living Center. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements:

U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible) Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S. Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and can only be appointed intermittently or on a fee basis Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred experience includes geriatric clinical practice, primary care, and home care/home visits Board certification in Geriatric or Palliative Medicine is highly desirable Physical ability to perform all activities of the position Duties

This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly The Home-Based Primary Care physician manages all aspects of geriatric primary care and supervises staff Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing comprehensive patient management within HBPC Provides clinical services, technical counsel, and leadership to meet patient care needs Maintains records of meetings, develops policies, and reviews privilege templates annually Provides a full range of clinical evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments in geriatric primary care and palliative medicine Participates in team meetings, orders diagnostic tests, and makes treatment decisions Completes all documentation timely and adheres to accreditation and VA policies Performs other tasks as assigned by the Chief of GEC and HVAMC Medical System Responsible to the Chief of GEC or supervisor Offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentives, competitive salary, paid time off, retirement, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, malpractice coverage, and flexible work schedule
